Here's a Dumb Question...
i'm still somewhat confused about how abilities don't go on a stack.
can someone explain this to me in detail?
example: priority is on opponent. casts pyroclasm and in response use avacynian priest ability as a last measure to tap target creature opponent controls
is this a legal move?
there are many different scenarios i can picture involving this issue. please halp. spanks.

abilities go on the stack just like spells. There's very little that doesn't use the stack (legendary rule, mana abilities, morph are some of the exceptions).
anyway:
- opponent has priority so you are not allowed to do anything
- opponent casts pyroclasm and he passes priority to you in order to resolve the stack.
- you respond by tapping avacynian priest and its ability goes on the stack, then you pass priority back.
- opponent passes priority again and the stack resolves
- the ability of avacynian priest resolves first then pyroclasm resolves
