Deck discussion for Swing and Fling

The Clasic Ball Flinging Deck, lol I would recommend adding 2-4 Elemental Apeal 4 mana for a 7/1 trample haste elemental kicker cost of 5 to make it a 14/1

I also recommend using 4 Goblin Guide, Spark Elemental, 4 Lightning Seperent, 4 Hell's Thunder, all of these cards fit a theme of come down swing and leave play. Kiln Fiend I do not think fits this deck aside from all the Instants amd Sorceries you have, but all those cards that I mentioned have Haste and Trampe and decent size bodies. They make an opponent shit balls because once they come down they swing and poof, unless someone plays Blind Obedience, Urabrask, Imposing Sovriegn, and/or anything that makes ur dudes enter play tapped then you are fine. I would also recommend using 4 Skullcrack MB

Thanks, some of those cards are just too heavy in mana cost though. And kiln Fiend really makes this deck. It allows for 1 turn kills if I can assault strobe, maybe lightning bolt, and fling, or really any combo with it. The double strike is killer though.

Fatal Frenzy maybe? Fun times with your assault strobe... And trample. Yumyum.

0

Fatal Frenzy is really cool! I'd run it if it's CMC was 1 less, It's just too hard for me to combo a 3 drop with anything.

This is pretty good. The new enchantment that gives a creature +1/+0 for your devotion to red might be good, since ball lightning comes in for a one turn boost of three devotion. Also, sneak attack if you have the money.

0
Posted 13 March 2014 at 12:53

I feel like that enchantment wouldn't be a good idea, yeah it gives him some extra damage but it would result in being two cards down instead of having another elemental that he could swing with, and if the elemental gets killed with the enchantment he would be two for oned instead of just one for oned.

Nice deck idea. Check out my elemental burn deck here if you like? It's a bit of a different take on the same idea as this deck, but using Mimic Vat and Primal forcemage amongst others. http://www.mtgvault.com/ruskiodoe/decks/elemental-vat-in-your-face/

Tried to check it out, but apparently the deck was deleted. I love mimic vat! But wouldn't run it in a burn deck, I use it more for enter and exit the battlefield abilities.

I highly recommend the card lightning serpent. I think it's from coldsnap. It should work great in this deck.

0
Posted 14 March 2014 at 11:42

Lightning serpent isn't very efficient for it's mana cost tbh. It pretty much works as a weaker ball lightning. Paying x to give something +1+1 for a turn just isn't a good enough use of mana. My two cents anyway.

0
Posted 14 March 2014 at 16:55

Yeah I agree, Lightning Serpent isn't a very efficient aggro card, the only deck it really has a place in that I can see is the Food Chain Misthollow Griffin combo deck, when that's a creature that would just grow infinitely large and kill your opponent. But I do agree, it's just not what this deck is looking for.

I have two of them in a deck similar to this and can vouch for their effectiveness. I use smokebraider and Incandescent soulstoke to get him out as early as possible, and to ensure that you have something to champion when he comes in. Then Mimic Vat him and cast a hasted version of him every turn :at your opponents face :).

0

I like the card! It's just that in order to really use it in my deck I'd have to be able to play another elemental that same turn. If I ran it I'd use spark elementals to cheapen the cost by 1, it's just too difficult to pull off when I'm going for a super quick win.

Noob here, does earthquake do well in this type of deck? Would it work better in a straight burn deck? I just thought it could answer some threats while still doing damage, clear a path for your beats as well.

0
Posted 15 March 2014 at 22:28

earthquake doesnt fit here at all. this deck is all about throwing creatures into the other players face after attacking with them, plus earthquake would hurt him too. you shouldnt use cards that can cause you problems unless you can either recover from the damage or it is an absolute necessity.

0
Posted 16 March 2014 at 21:24

I still don't see it, I thought damage wouldn't matter cause you would burn them out faster. Sure your creatures are meant to trample over then fling, but what if they lock up the board and you need to clear a path? If your side is empty you could wipe zoo out, and a few other archetypes. Maybe it is too situational or maybe in straight burn. I guess I'll just try it and learn why it sucks.

0
Posted 18 March 2014 at 23:22

earthquake isnt as effective against zoo because it drops such large creatures faster than he would get the mana to kill them. other achetypes he might stand a better chance against, depending on if they have an answer to red or damage mitigation of some kind. the main reason its a bad idea is because he doesnt have any protection from attacking creatures. he is completely reliant on doing such fast damage that if he hurts himself too much he could fall victim to a sudden large hit, ESPECIALLY if the other person has ANY kind of buff for creatures. 2 giant growths on something with haste spells trouble if your life is low. correllating this to my infect deck, with the right cards you can do well over 10-15 damage in a single attack, and if you hurt yourself right before they pull a stunt like that, then you basically pave the way to an easy win for them.

if you want a better alternative to earthquake, go with Bonfire of the Damned. If you can cast it for its miracle cost, then you are in business

So very nice deck (and clever name). Barrage of Expendables I think wouldn't be a bad option because it's something that stays on the field and can give your opponents damage just incase you don't have Fling.

0
Posted 16 March 2014 at 00:54

I think there's an older but modern legal version of it that only requires sacrificing it instead of one red mana, but other than that i think fling is the champ here on sacrificing them for damage. Not sure if it's actually necessary.

I went ahead and looked at it. It's neat, but not nearly neat enough to spend $1,700 on it! You could run some decks with any mixture of blue, white, and black and have it be plausibly better with creature control for under $150. But hey if you've got the money go for it!

0

Always judge a deck by the mid cost. That's the most accurate representation of overall cost. You cut $500, down to $1256. You could make so many good decks with that money! haha

Titan's Strength instead of Brute Force? Since you're planning to fling it anyway, the 2 extra toughness won't make much difference, and the Scry 1 is an easy way to help get your draws early-game.

0

im no expert and there are to many comments to read but what about adding fireblast or rift bolt. personally for the kill i would take out maybe 2 reforges and add 2 fireblast. or if reforge is your card draw maybe take out devastating summons. jus an idea for you

0
Posted 23 March 2014 at 12:16

Both are great cards! Rift bolt doesn't combo well with the idea of this deck being more creature based however, and fireblast isn't modern legal.

0
Posted 24 March 2014 at 14:41

i hear that, its creature based..then what about brimestone volley..that card is excellent in my red deck wins with ball lightning.

0

I do not remember the name of the card but i am sure there was one what gave the creature +X/+0 equal to its power. for three mana. makes you creature deal more damage and fling for more.
When you have time check out my new combo deck.

it's easier to use kiln fiend for pumping. And there are several creatures like that, but it's too much mana and not cheap enough. Where as kiln fiend gets +3/+0 for me say... giving it double strike, for 1 mana. I'll check it out right now.

Nicely done, i have all these cards so i build the deck it work well ! :)

All i have to say its switch :

2 ``Reforge the Soul`` by 2 ``Wild Guess``: ( As an additional cost to cast Wild Guess, discard a card. Draw two cards. )
With ``Wild Guess`` you discard always the ``Hellspark elemental`` if possible and draw to cards.
With this you lost nothing and give nothing.

2 ``Vexing Devil`` by 2 ``Spark elemental``. ( Just because they have trample and haste like the other and ...... )

1 ``Ball Lightning`` by 1 ``Awaken the Ancient`` ( just because its to strong you should try it. )

Just a point of view nice deck! :)

2
Posted 08 April 2014 at 16:19

I disagree with the last two, but maybe faithless looting instead of wild guess? Any way to play awaken the ancient would be sweet though.

0
Posted 08 April 2014 at 21:45

No will be better with ``Wild Guest``, just for the Hellspark Elemental and oh by the way you can switch 2 ``Browbeat`` for 2 ``Gut Shot`` awsome with the ``Kiln Fiend`` (insane)
Well maybe for the ``Faithless looting`` i dont no i'l try for sure !
Think about 2 ``Caverne of Souls``, give you some protection from blue counter spell.
Anyway nice deck. :)

1
Posted 08 April 2014 at 22:18

Wow, I didn't realize cavern of souls was applicable here! That also would be a reason to swap out vexing devil, for more fluency.

0

No, just swap 2 ``vexing`` for 2 ``Spark Elemental``

0
Posted 09 April 2014 at 00:59

Well, yes, I guess I didn't clarify :) but maybe with cavern you could use it to cast something like spark troopers? Just an idea

0

Think about ``Uncanny Speed``.

0
Posted 08 April 2014 at 23:03

awkwardly enough, uncanny speed is much too slow for this deck. It's only real application would be for use on a kiln fiend, and in order for kiln fiend to need and receive haste, i'd have to play it turn 4. I would much prefer Titan's strength, because I won't be needing to give my creatures haste.

0

I have a deck just like this: earliest win was on turn 3. On average: turn 4 or 5.

I discarded Fling and Browbeat and put some fury charms. also Blistercoil Weird can do potentially 20dmg on round 2 (1 x Assault Strobe, 1x Titans Strenght, 3 x Gut shot). can somebody find a way to do more with less cards? also only 19 lands seems enough.

0
Posted 17 April 2014 at 10:50

for having half your creatures in the deck die at the end of your turn, this seems a little slow.... turn 6 is the fastest you could get off an assault strobe, swing, and fling on a ball lightning...

-1

BUT that's usually game time, and it's about being reckless anyway.

0

they're meant more for kiln fiend. which I could do turn 3.

0

I win by turn 4 70% of games with this, winning about 85%, even against the tarmogoyf and fairie decks.

0

I don't play a lot of burn. You can see from my profile that I have zero red decks. But I really like this one. +1!
I see nothing in the side board though. I would suggest sideboarding in some blood moons. Possibly some land destruction (Boom//Bust, goblin ruin blaster, molten rain, ) or artifact removal (ancient grudge, batterhorn, echoing ruin, fissure vent, flamespeaker's will, fury charm) or both (demolish). just some suggestions. great deck! ;-)
