Deck Description

I had a Bloodlord of Vaasgoth and an idea.

How to Play

Basically this is just a bunch of ways of hitting your opponent cheaply and then destroying them with Bloodlord of Vaasgoth. The bloodthirst is used on one-drops, making them very powerful.

Deck discussion for Bloodthirsty Vampires

Could this deck work in modern without Dark Ritual?
Also i noticed you play some 1 drops and then quickly jump to 4 and 5 mana creatures.
How about what do you think about Gatekeeper of Malakir, Vampire Nighthawk or Bloodline Keeper?
Also Vampire Nocturnus is such a nice lord oO

I was thinking about bloodline keeper, but according to one of the rulings on bloodlord, it doesnt affect tokens. Gatekeeper and Nighthawk could potentially be good; I do agree with that. Vampire Nocturnus is a great idea. Dark ritual is in there because it lets me put down bloodlord turn three. A 6/6 flyer, turn three.

Yea for Bloodlord to work you creatures need to be "cast".
Also on opponent needed to be dealt damage. Lose of life from "Bump in the Night" wont work here either.
If Bloodlord is your main idea than your deck seems to be battle focused. Maybe you use some instant battle tricks like Grasp of Darkness to make sure that you win the fight? Urge to Feed is a vampire card in case you like the flavor.
Personally I find Aphotic Wisps interesting. It often makes your creature unblockable and draws a new card for only 1 mana. A card like Unnatural Endurance could protect your creature in case you need that?!

Dark Ritual is very powerful card, but it makes your deck only vintage legal :(

According to the mtg wiki, burn spells do activate bloodthirst, so bump in the night is all good. Although my deck is a bit battle focused, the idea is all about finding cheap ways to quickly deal damage, since it's really only about bloodthirst. With everything in here, those ways include:
-Attacking normally without being blocked (duh)
-Attacking with Pulse Tracker regardless of blockers
-Killing anything with Falkenrath down, such as:
a. Feast of Blood
b. Tendrils of Corruption (although this is more later in the game when I already have Bloodlord down and I'm trying to boost one-drops)
c. Just having Anowon down
d. Attacking with anything weak enough that if it's blocked it gets killed.
e. I suppse Grasp of Darkness of Urge to feed, but those have a limit of what they can kill.
-Bump in the Night (yes, it does work)
-Blood Tribute (again, not really practical early on, but it could be used later in the game)

If I'm being completely honest, Dark Ritual is in there because I don't have that many cards and my friend gave four of them to me when he saw I got a really basic vampire deck. Over time, it evolved into this, and the Dark Rituals seemed to good to give up. They are also Legacy-legal. I suppose I could replace it with one of your options, or maybe I'll replace them with Doom Blades, since I have those, but only if I actually go to a tournament.

Don't get me wrong - I do like the deck especially out of a binder collection. I'm a hobby vampire player too ( http://www.mtgvault.com/germynator/decks/budget-vampire/ ) :P

I think I have to clarify "Life loss" to you:

"Loss of life can occur from unblocked creatures and direct damage from spells. [...] To pay life is the same as losing life, and damage causes loss of life."

In other words, every damage causes a player to lose life but not every life loss is damage!
(just like every thumb is a finger but not all fingers are thumbs)

Back to your Vaasgoth. He specifically needs "damage". That may include a direct attack or a burn spell like "Lightning Bolt".
But it does NOT work if your opponent lose life by "Bump in the Night" or "Blood Tribute".
It DOES work with "Tendrils of Corruption".

Still they aren't bad cards. They can finish your opponent if your creatures get killed or blocked...

Ok. First I'd like to thank you for pointing that out before I went to a tournament.

Second, aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

Third, now that I've finished raging about the uselessness of half my deck, I went looking around for black burn spells and couldn't find any cost-effective ones, but then I remembered a strategy that someone else on this site was using. Off-colored phyrexian spells. So I did some searching, and I found Gut Shot, which I think is a perfect solution. Granted, I come out slightly behind if it's used alone, but essentially, relative to my opponent, I pay one life to activate boodthirst.

Well black just doesn't have "burn" spells. Thats a red thing.
Maybe I'm a little bias, but why mono black anyways?
Sulfurous Springs and Dragonskull Summit are really cheap...
Of cause you can stay mono black, but you lose cards like: Stromkirk Captain, Stromkirk Noble or Rakish Heir.
The Phyrexian mana would hurt that much or you could play the real lightning bolt...

Realistically I'm only keeping it mono black because it's the cards I already have, and I like it the way it is. So recently, I have been looking into 2-3 mana cards to balance the curve a bit more. Gatekeeper and Nighthawk are good, but as theyre a bit expensive, I'm starting to lean toward Arrogant Bloodlord. Do you have anyh other ideas?

hmm "Drana, Liberator of Malakir" , "Kalastria Highborn" or "Captivating Vampire" probably are too expensive for you too. I do like "Asylum Visitor" for his card draw potential but he kinda forces you to use discard like "Stromkirk Condemned". The latest set has 2 aetherborn vampires: "Gifted Aetherborn" is the new Nighthawk. "Yahenni, Undying Partisan" has haste and could get big, depending on the number of removal spells you use (still probably weak compared to other cards)

Does anyone know how to add foils? Bloodlord has different art as a foil and it just doesn't feel the same with the normal look. My profile pic is of the foil because it just looks so good.

No you currently can't.

If you type in the card name a list of editions will appear. (You can also use " [M12] Bloodlord of Vaasgoth " to choose the set) In this case however, if you click on the card you see that mtgault only has the M12 and not the prerelease version ( http://magiccards.info/ptc/en/50.html )
