Deck Description

This deck is a labor of love and evolution from a janky turn 1 kill Hexmage Depths deck I made back in 2011.

The original deck ran Dark Rituals, Lotus Petals, Lightning Greaves, and Vampire Hexmages, aiming at pumping out a Marit Lage token , equipping Lightning Greaves to it, and swinging for lethal on turn 1. While I only managed a turn 1 kill one time, the deck was very good at winning on turn 2 or 3 unless disrupted.....

......Unfortunately, cards like FoW, Daze, Lightning Bolt, not to mention Wasteland and StP exist. While, there is always the "X Dies to Y" argument, in this case there were many Y's, so my Hexmage Depths deck remained sleeved, lying in wait and collecting dust as I played Goblins until Innistard was released and then UWR Delver until the M14 Legendary rule change and Thespian's Stage was printed and the old gods were awoken from their slumber.

** Disclaimer: This deck is not ideal, it is constructed from the cards I own currently, not the cards that are best suited for the deck. In a perfect world where cardboard wasn't so expensive, the Llanowar Wastes/Overgrown Tombs would be Bayous, There would be another 1 or 2 Liliana, the IoK's might be Thoughseizes, and there would be 2 more Wastelands. Also Tabernacle....

There are other similar deck lists that run Deathrite Shaman's Bobs and Goyfs (Rock Depths/Eva Depth), but those aggro strategies are not what my deck is trying to be.

Kennas Haas won a SCG Open with a sweet Jund deck that was very similar to this list, but splashed red for a punishing fire engine and faithless looting. The article he wrote for SCG is a great primer on the deck: http://www.starcitygames.com/article/27680_Leaving-A-Legacy-Jund-Depths.html

How to Play

The goal of this deck is to wreck havoc on your opponent's hand and board, until A) You establish a lock with some combination of Loam + Liliana\Wasteland\Raven's Crime\Glacial Chasm or B) it is safe for you to copy Dark Depths with Thespian's Stage, sac the original Depths to Legendary rule, the copy has 0 ice counters, the copy is sac'd, and a 20/20 flying indestructible token hits the board.

Early game disruption comes from from IoK, Small Pox, Abrupt Decay and Hymn. In mid-game, setting up a loam engine with Wasteland/Ghost Quarter or Raven's Crime is the goal until it is safe for Depths/Stage to go off. Glacial Chasm can be copied with Thespian Stage as well, and recycled via Loam to set up another lock.

Small Pox may be the biggest star in the deck. When you run 0 creatures (aside from a singleton Nether Spirit) and Loam which gives you extra lands to sacrifice and discarded (that can then be recovered again), small pox is always going to net you card advantage, not to mention disruption.

Entomb lets you put any card into the yard, so it can grab you Life from the Loam or any land.

Nether Spirit is great because he can be entombed and then either chump block a creature every turn, swing for 2, be sac'd for free to a small pox, etc etc

Hope you guys enjoy, comment with any suggestions or questions
