I focus less on his scavenge ability here and moreso on his ever-present sac outlet. Not to say scavenge isn't available- death's shadow and phyrexian soulgorger are fantastic. I just enjoy graveyard/ETB/LTB triggers so much more! This deck build has also allowed me OPTIONS when playing opponents, which has made for much more successful games. Many fun things in this deck:1st. Dark Depths + either Vampire Hexmage or Thespian's stage. If you can't get the combo, hexmage is a planeswalker killer at the very least.2nd. Mimic Vat. All day long. Kokusho, yavimaya elder, Thragtusk, Shriekmaw, Grave Titan, solumn simulacrum, Fleshbag, the list goes on and on. Keep Varolz on the battlefield for an easy sac outlet. Mikaeus for doubling down on abilities. 3rd. Dredgetacular. Keep bringing things back. Phyrexian Reclamation, Reanimate, Haunted Crossroads, sheoldred, all lend to a fun time.

Hunted Horror?Hunted Troll?Phyrexian Dreadnought?Entomb?Defense of the heart?

Phyrexian Dreadnought is, for sure, a missing piece of the deck, as is entomb. Defense of the heart is great as well. I'm not a huge fan of hunted horror or troll, the idea of giving my opponents stuff to play with doesn't sit well with me! Plus, this deck is more ETB/LTB shenanigans. Thanks for the ideas, though. When I come across phydre and entomb, better believe they'll show up here.
I didn't suggest them as a creature you would normally play, more like buried alive for to get a cheap 7-8 counters on varolz.Dreadnought is just bonkers in a varolz edh deck haha.and NP anytime, its hard to think of every single card ever printed that fit into an EDH deck :PDefense of the heart should be played in almost every G/X/x EDH deck, a lot of people don't know of it or just don't own one:P I allows sugest it.
Yeah, dreadnaught is so good! I have played against a guy who used him and Jarad- while dreadnaught's ability was on the stack, he sacced him to jarad, dealt out 15 damage to each player, then brought him right back with reclamation. needless to say, it made for a VERY quick game.
Now that's a EDH deck^^where's your sanquine bond ( combo with Exquisite Blood )
Though it's fantastic, my group does our best to shy away from the infinite combos- hence the missing half of that puzzle. Thanks for your idea!
I love the straying from the infinites (and keeps me from recommending Triskelion to combo with Mikaeus the Unhallowed). It always makes for more fun games when no one just goes ham and infinites to win.
I totaly get the infinite combo thing that your local players agree on.But in EDH? it rarely hapens that much.
^Not true, I have 3 decks(kruphix, Nekusar and Animar) that have little problems going infinite with counter back up(mostly because dreamhalls>omniscience>enter the infinite) but if you run counter magic and tutors its really not hard to go infinite, it really depends on which combo you go for as some are more obvious that other. Most people won't counter a Temple Bell, but when you land a Mind over Matter they tend to regret it in a Nekusar deck. That being said I do have non-combo/Fair EDH decks.
going infinite is cool and all, but it does take a lot of the fun out of the game. Especially in EDH. Most of the time, you're there just have a good time, and blowing up the board and ending the game on turn 5 really is a waste of time. I learned that lesson after winning the game on turn 5 with a krenko infinite combo.
I know, and all my "combo" decks can win without the combos, they just win faster with them.
