Deck Description

This is part one of a four-part deck series centering on the four horsemen. I present to you: Pestilence.

The other three will be revealed shortly!

How to Play

Each land is meant to trigger pestilence. Pestilence is the best piece of this puzzle, and on it you can hang most win conditions. There are, however, a number of other syngergistic combos in this deck that work to your advantage: Geralf's with Gift of immortality, Obzedat with whip of erebos, plague spitter with stuffy doll.

In general, however, you want Souls of the faultless and pestilence. If you can drop ragged veins on an opponent's creature, you'll be tripling damage with every one damage pestilence deals.

If Pestilence clears the board, use sorin's ability to pump out another creature so you don't have to sacrifice pestilence at end of turn.

I feel plauge spitter is an awesome choice thematically, but will die as soon as pestilence proper hits the field. You need some way to either boost all your creatures toughness, or simply find a better creature that fits the deck. Also have you seen blacksun zenith? its like mega pestilence only it kills everything. Again probably not what your going for but its just my favorite zenith.

Plague spitter is not a set choice for me, but I do really like his continual nagging (especially with gift of immortality and whip of erebos). I'm turning down black sun since it's not actual damage, so it doesn't filter through to hurt the opponent. I appreciate your thoughts.

I like it..but the souls of the faultless doesn't work with pestilance. its sadly only combat damage but the rest of it will work fine

Death Watch, Grey Merchant of Asphodel, and I would add some creatures that have protection from black.

i was just gonna suggest pro black too. my friend used to use cemetery gates from homelands for that, but whatever works. i was gonna suggest cop black, but that other enchantment you have is definitely better.

Grey is a fantastic combo with gift of immortality. As for pro black, I sideboarded a couple mark of asylums. It would somewhat limit my play, but given the need to keep my creatures alive and kicking while triggering pestilence it's a great option. Thanks for the grey idea, I'll need to see how to fit a couple of him into the deck.

This is just a personal thing, I have to nerd out here: I understand why the deck is BW, but wouldn't the colors of pestilence magic be black and green? Just look at the golgari, those guys are riddled with sickness and disease, and pestilence is commonly associated with bugs and vermins, which black has both, but green has a good number of insects as well. Is it me or does anyone else think the deck colors should be black and green for pestilence, like I said I understand why it's BW, just think if we were looking at this from the horseman of pestilence's point of view, he'd agree with me.

I actually totally agree with you on the color thing. For me, though, I really wanted to create a deck that centered on pestilence itself, and white had the best options for deflecting and absorbing that damage. I'll keep colors in mind as I finalize the 3 others!

I have a similiar deck to yours check it out;
http://www.mtgvault.com/hayvan/decks/pestilence/
My combos I like; Pariah+Stuffy Doll+Pestilence= For every 1 black mana opponent loses 3 life while you lose 0.
Isochron Scepter+Orim's Chant=Stall while you set up.
Duress/Hymn=Great defense againt combo decks.
Wall of Resistance=A flyer blocker against fast decks which gets bigger and bigger if it survives of course.

What about crypt rats? I played a deck like this once and used both pestilence and crypt rats pretty successfully.

I have to agree with anubisbeat on this. Pox and Small Pox should difinitely be in this deck or Contagion for pure theme here.
