Deck Description

All about controlling their game while drawing more cards, then either burn em out with guttersnipe, level them with young pyromancer's creatures, or mill them out with jace's erasure. three different win conditions, all the while continually controlling the game and replenishing my hand with the instants/sorceries.

Deck discussion for I came in like a wrecking draw

if you could replace preordain ponder and counterspell, you could make this modern. a good counterspell would be deprive. or if making things modern doesn't intrest you this deck could use some more daze.

Thanks for your thoughts! Replaced counterspell with dissolve (I love adding the draw control for the 1 extra mana), Ponder with Serum Visions, and preordain with see beyond. Not positive about see beyond, but it gives me options to drop my weakest card in the hand. That should make it modern while not giving up too much ground on quality of cards.

i suggested deprive because it fits on the stick, dissolve is better except you can't stick it.

Mana leak is just the best counterspell in Modern (except maybe an argument for cryptic command.)

Really, what about against my mono green elf deck which consistently has 11 mana turn 3 and ramps only harder from there? What about past turn 7 when mana leak becomes mostly useless if they have been hitting their land drops? Mana leak is good, but it is not better than a hard counterspell. Also remand is better than mana leak every day of the week. But deprive is more the style of this deck.i

Elves isn't a deck in Modern. Almost every deck in Modern is a tapout deck that wants to be using all of its mana every turn. Remand is also just quite bad against aggro or midrange decks since they can probably just recast the creature that turn.

I played UWR Delver a while back in Modern, and the deck was great. I played two isochron scepters as a support card, but it literally took over the game every time it came down. I also played 4 Young Pyromancers which was another insane threat. I think a deck that tries to go all-in on Isochron scepter control with Young Pyromancer as a finisher.

I would also recommend moving into white as well. White gives you Supreme Verdict in SB, path to exile, and lightning helix. (Note: Lightning Helix on Isochron Scepter is almost always a game win.)

Also, have you heard about the combo with Research/Development and Isochron scepter? Worth looking into...

I'd cut the guttersnipe and Gelectrode. Guttersnipe isn't even good enough for standard and gelectrode isn't too great either. I think a creature base of delver and pyromancer is probably good, and isochron can do a lot of heavy lifting as well.

You also definitely want fetchlands. 6 is about average for modern.

Good luck!

Electrode not good enough for modern? What planet do you live on? Gelectrode is the bane of aggro decks. Not to mention in response to electrode being hit you can use him, counter to protect him, then use again. He is like the spot removal version of guttersnipe.i

Jace, thanks for all your thoughts. And wow, research / development is just crazy with isochron! Talk about shenanigans...
I really like keeping it u/r, makes casting multiple cards a turn far more feasible.

Guttersnipe with Tandem Lookout. Every spell is a burn AND a cantrip.

Just for that reference, you have been judged, that said why not add the instant two drop from Kamigawa block bounces target creature and all other creatures with the same name, also mama leak isn't a bad option either.have you thought of searing blaze?
