One of my first decks
This deck is kind of a jumbled mess but it has everything you would need in it. There are many ways to play it and it's up to you to decide how.

A few cards have synergy to other cards but most of them dosent, Diregraf Captain works well with the few zombies you play and Bloodlord of Vaasgoth works with your few other vampires. You play Etched Champion but has only 8 artifacts in your deck so its value is quite useless. You focus a lot on sacrifice triggers and have a few cards included that return creatures from your grave. You have a few cards with infect in your deck but they will not value very well because infect dosent count as real damage and vice versa so beating life points without it and putting counters with it same time is useless. All about this deck seems very grabbing a hand full of cards from a box and make a deck from them. 86 cards is also way too much, go down for 60 and play less lands (round about 22 is the standard). When building a deck you should first have an idea or focus, this seems as you did not have any of them. You should pick a theme for your deck (like Control, Counter, Damage, Mana Ramp, Beatdown or whatever comes into your mind) or pick up to three cards you like to play and try to find a way that they work well together. Then adjust your color identity (why does one color benefit over another) and at last step assemble your mana base
I agree. This is not a deck at the moment. Needs a strategy. Think about what you want it to do and rebuild it till it does. And cut it down to 60 cards.
Thanks for that
I centered the deck around Nicol Bolas and am working on downsizing it to a control deck at the moment
But I need a second opinion on what I should try given the cards
Hard to tell because there are like 80 different single cards. Pick a few you like the most and then we go from there.Your best cards should be 4 of. So start with your best 1 drop 2 drop and so on.
I dont have many copies as I got most of my cards from a friend
But ill go with A ratio of card colors. 8 black creatures, 6 red creatures, 4 blue creatures, 4 black noncreature spells, 6 red noncreature spells, and 8 blue noncreature spells give or take a few for mana rocks
The reason its this way is because I have a limited range of opposing decks. I play against 4 decks total. A bant aggro deck, a Nicol Bolas default deck, a Red white Huatli deck, and a Rakdos aggro deck
So thats why its a gargled mess
I guess you should keep it easy and go with two colors first. Eather blue/red spell heavy with a bunch of burn spells and counterspells. Or go red/black for more aggro. Given the cards you have, i think blue red suits best. Try to get some burn spells like lightning bolt or lightning strike. Also get some blue card draw like opt or serum visions
I've run two colors before. I've played for 3 years I'm just kinda trash at deckbuilding tho. I need Bolas as it's my foundation.
If so then you should analyze decks first before going to make by yourself. Look at tournament high placed ones and try to udnerstand how they work and why they put those cards in.This will help improving your own deck building skills ;)
I don't have many new cards. Most of my cards are from between 2010 and 2013/14 so that's why that doesn't work for me
Based on Ejs116's comment so we could keep discussions clear;Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh is a very mana expensive card to be used in a control deck so I would focus arround him and base your deck on the old Duels of the Plainswalkers PC Game Deck he was introduced in. I think it was DotP2013 where he was the final boss.Found a version of his deck here on MTGVaulthttp://www.mtgvault.com/malchion/decks/nicol-bolass-deck-dotp-2013/and build my own one as a hornor deck some time agohttp://www.mtgvault.com/risendeep/decks/bolas-tribal/Gem of Becoming is one of the key cards that fetches your deck for a basic land of each type. A 2 or 3 drop helps drawing lands from your deck and reduces the ammount of lands your draw normally on each of your turns to benefit other cards.Obelisk of Grixis fits well into Bolas color identity and is worth a 2 or 3 drop.Slave of Bolas is a good card that not only captures a creature from your opponent but also forces it to be sacrificed when you are done.Diabolic Tutor could be a 1 or 2 drop as this is your first deck, it is ok to play it.I also picked Vulshok Refugee from your list as it has protection from red. Most played removal spells are red so it stays alive on the board and cant be affected by red damage like when playing a Pyroclasm board whipe. What is a pharaoh without a pyramid so Pyramid of the Pantheon (a card I advice very often for budget play) is a good mana pushing card even if it needs to be powered first. As bolas is a very mana costly card, you could use your early turns to power the Pyramid.Anything else is up to you then. For other kinds of controld ecks, you should search for Mono Blue Control or Jeskai Control. Key cards are mostly counter spells like Mana Leak and a lot of removal spells like Lightning Bolt or Path to Exile as same as Man-Lands (lands that become creatures for mana) like Celestial Colonade but also creatures like Spell Queller that have additional effects.I will be honest, most cards in your deck as the vampires or zombies are better placed into tribal decks
ill keep that in mind
why not make it edh add a few more cards (1 of each) That way its less of a mess. lol.
nah I never play commander/EDH so it wouldn't make sense. I only play singles with a few of my friends in casual
