Deck discussion for Rat Race

Thats....thats alotta rats, Thrumming Stone + Door of Destinies + Relentless rats is a very powerful and quick combo, Marrow Gnawer can sac relentless rats or even his own tokens and flood the field with more power, very cool idea.

Keep up the great work

was suprised to find many ppl who made similar decks didnt use marrow, only reason no rituals is becus id rather keep this extended instead of legacy/vintage just personal choice though if ur playing casual, was thinking of lifeline and dark ritual if i went legacy, lifeline would just make this deck to good that and maybe a demonic tutors to get marrows

dude, dont come my way with this deck.
I'd have no chance of winning against it.

i havent built this deck more of a concept from seeing a few cards, if i used my legacy version instead of extended it would prob get going around turn 4 fairly fast with no real stopping

a protection deck would eat this alive. this deck has only one plan. but a freaklish good plan but still only one. thought. coat of arms.

wow only advice is the black counter and maybe a quick creature pump, beyond that looks good and fun.

reason i picked door instead of coat is the fact that coat will help opponent more, the fact that i will hav more creatures out would b irrelevent if i got swept in one turn by a flying deck that built up fast, understand the protection owning this deck but i hav nevr seen someone devote a deck solely for black prot

Replace a couple diabolic tutor for a demonic tutor and a vampiric tutor. I would replace some cards with a couple aluren, 4 pack hunt, 4 rancor, and 2 skullclamp.
Interesting artifact choices with the mono black list you have. It looks fun to play, but frustrating against black or blue control.

not going to add the other tutors becus me and friends mainly play legacy ruling and not splashing in green since not truly needed, in theory door is unneeded but i like it incase a few die off, skull clamp is so so and dont really need any buffing things

That's cool dude, jz suggestin' cuz aluren is hard to use and fits well here. Rancor, Pack Hunt, and Aluren are allowed under anal legacy rulings, but they're also more money ;p

My group plays Vintage, but banned this deck. It's an a**hole deck. Yeah, it can be dealt with, but it's generally not fun for anyone involved.

Sure, if you're playing Pro Tour Qualifier or whatever, go for it.

this deck is evil would love to give it a go. theres just no flaws to it.

0
Posted 09 April 2009 at 09:02

yes it does hav little flaws in it, the only thing that can really counter it is a deck that is a little quicker(friend has a deck that starts killing turn 3 with 8 damage turn 4 with 12) or mass removal on turn 4 before i can get out a lifeline turn 5

Awesome deck!! Im gonna give this deck a try. I can see why you would take at the doors but dont you think its a good fail safe just in case you wanna go the token route with marrow?

You should sideboard cranial extraction and extirpate against someone who would use them against you. It would be really funny to see it happen, but losing all your rats would be annoying after a couple games.

I’ve been testing this deck and it runs well once you get the pieces you need. The only slow down has been mana I would suggest adding 4 Ancient Tomb and taking out 4 rats or 3 rats and a marrow.

1 cranial extraction and this deck would be devastated, but its still pretty awesome.
Just letting you know that there are very obvious weaknesses.
Heavy Burn till Cranial would suffice for countering this

wow! that is one quick and amazing combo deck

0

ya i know this deck has a few major weaknesses but the reason is becus they made the cards like cranial and maelstrom to make sure ppl didnt spam this in type 2 and such otherwise it would roll

Thought Hemorrhage=Game Over! And yes people do play that card because its amazing. Infact, I can't think of a sinlge card that would rape this deck more....especially on turn 4. Maelstrom Pulse is also a problem but not nearly as bad as Thought Hemorrhage.

It would be really hillarious though to see a deck loose 20 cards on turn 4. Especially because there is only 20 lands, you are likely to miss a land drop. LOL

This is basically the deck that was waiting to be created when Rel Rats was made. It needs some protection against the slew of cards that can destroy it (darn you meddling mage!). Most sideboards would have something that could dominate games 2 and 3 in a 3 game tourny... perhaps a couple underground sea's and sunken ruins swapped out, and a few counters in the side board in case...

in a deck like this do you really need that many lands? once you have thrumming stone in play you've won unless they don't do something about it. another suggestion is just how people could easily play hate cards against it try using something like a thoughseize in the deck that way you can take their "answers" before they can use them. like i said just a suggestion deck seems strong to begin with.

0

IMO pull the 4 Lifeline and 4 swamps since your rats will be so huge so early and you have multiple mana boosters available. Insert 4 Terror or similar creature removal for that pesky Meddling Mage and 4 Altar of Dementia. If you're going to play an a**hole deck, make it a vicious a**hole deck.

WOG, Planar Cleansing, Hallowed burial, or Austere Command wrecks lifeline and your rats. Sorry.

unknownhunter763 is right, I made a rats deck almost just like this one a year ago on this site and even when I did it, it was cuz I got the idea from someone else, can't tell anyone it's an original deck idea, it's common sense really.

Everyone knows about it and everyone knows how to stop it, conveniently the cards to stop it already exist in most sideboards. Don't kid yourself into thinking that if you play this against people at a tourney that they wouldn't just sideboard in a card that utterly wrecks your deck.

another card that could destroy this deck= haunting echoes

0

no, for each other rat in play they get +1/+1

but I would trow out the 4 lifeline and trow in 4 cabal rituals

0
Posted 24 July 2009 at 22:00

OR trow in 4 mass hysteria:

for 1 Red mana, an enchantment, all creature you control have haste.
you can get red mana from Lotus bloom, and add some red mana, it only needs 1

0
Posted 24 July 2009 at 22:02

or trow in some chrome mox, you only need 1 rat in your hand. So the rest of them can be used for chrome mox.

Just some idead, try some things out, choose what's the fastest

LOL@Pray4Plagues
A good deck that will ACTUALLY win costs $150-250 on average
The cards are expensive because they make u win,
If they make u win, people can charge more for them.

Thats why a Baneslayer Angel(m10) is going about $25-30 for ONE
Thats not overpriced. Its just overpowered.
