-1/-1 counters on you own creatures. for some reason opponents hardly stop you from making your own creatures weaker and now they will pay for that mistake.
This deck takes some time to boot up. but eventuelly when the counters start flowing (on your own creatures) you'll start to gain lives (woeleecher) and 1/1 elf tokens (flourishing defences). Although the persist does not grant you tokens, it does allow you a certain amount of control against flying creatures, enchantments and eventual damage (aerie ouphes, spellduster and the medic respectively). The hearthmenders make sure you'll never generate more -1/-1 counters then you can handle. The Zenith allows you to look for a creature you might desperately need. and the rings allows you to remove annoying cards your opponents might play.
