I wanted to make a Grixis Control deck in modern that maintained a relatively low budget, had a solid manabase, and could compete with viable modern strategies. This is the best that I could come up with to match all of those criteria.Clearly, it's not optimized; however, it's only 100$, which is super cheap for basically any format: especially modern. Please let me know what you think down below.Don't pull any punches.
The deck looks to grind and generate 2 for 1's (or better) wherever possible.Since this is a control deck, it's unreasonable to layout an "ideal" curve, because you're really just looking to answer threats as they're presented and then resolve your own once your opponent is out of resources. Some lines of play:T1 play island, Thought Scour myselfT2 play swamp, cast Tasigur, The Golden FangT3 play land, cast anger of the gods, swingT1 Serum VisionsT2 RemandT3 Mana LeakT4 LanguishT5 Painful truths with counterspell/removal as backupAnd so on...Goblin Dark-Dwellers is playing the role of Snapcaster Mage/Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. It also happens to be a better beater.Painful Truths+Thought Scour+Serum Visions+Compulsive Research+Remand+Electrolyze+Tasigur should allow you to rip through your deck quickly while maintaining a respectable hand size.Tribute to Hunger hopefully will offset some of the damage that you do to yourself from Painful Truths.
