Deck Description

This is the planned list that will replace my previous deck Selesnya Token. I will hopefully grab as much as possible on this list at the next FNM so I wanted to post it here to get more feedback.

It is somewhat low on basic lands, however, I'm supplementing that with mana draw through Gatecreeper Vine and with mana ramp with Axebane Guardian. In a previous play test with my Selesnya Token deck this combo proved very effective. Please keep that in mind when commenting. I will do further play testing once I get this completed and determine any mana burn issues and address them at that point.

There aren't many creatures in this deck since the focus is on populating tokens. Tokens will be created mostly through sorcery and instant cards like Selesnya Charm, Call of the Conclave, Slime Molding, and Entreat the Angles. Most of these are low 2/2 and 3/3, though the Slime Molding could be a beast if I can mana ramp as previously described. The Armada Wurm would be an effective 5/5 with an immediate token too, and the Wayfaring Temple would only become more and more powerful as these tokens multiply. Finally, Trostani is there for the healing, but more so the cheap populate... enough said!

Enchantments like Growing Ranks and Parallel Lives will create an army, even if they are only 3/3, which will quickly and easily overwhelm. Collective Blessing for the +3/+3 and Intangible Virtue for another +1/+1 AND vigilance to all my tokens is great IMHO.

Druid's Deliverance and Rootborn Defenses for the obvious populate early on are also helpful.

I'm still working on a sideboard, so comments that will directly help with that would be very appreciated. Currently I've got 2 Loxodon Smiter's and 1 Rest in Peace. I'm considering 1 or Grove of the Guardian for the 8/8 token if the small and medium tokens in the main doesn't seem effective enough or quickly available. I've got another Druid's Deliverance and Rootborn Defenses in there right now, though more as a filler than anything. More fillers though with more usage than the above two are 2 Sundering Growth, 1 Mana Bloom, and 3 Farseek.

Thanks for the comments!

Deck discussion for Selesnya Populate

Nice deck. I would drop one Trostani and add in another Wayfaring Temple, then I would main deck Grove of the Guardian and Find a way to fit in Rogue's Passage to help make your Wayfaring Temple unblockable, which can increase your chances to populate. If you do add the Passage, take a good, hard look at Precinct Captain for the same reasons as Wayfaring Temple.

B/R Aggro will be hard to deal with so some Knight of Glory may be a helpful sideboard card. I would also consider throwing in one more RIP , 1-2 more Loxodon Smiter (which also helps with Black discard decks) the Dryad Militant, Thalia, and Oblivion Ring into the sideboard to help against control decks.

Thanks gain for commenting. So far you're comments have great. I looked at Rogue's Passage but didn't see it's value until just now. I'll definitely get it added. I'm struggling to see the usefulness of the Precinct Captain, but maybe I'm being too narrow sighted, wondering why a 1/1 is worthwhile - could you maybe elaborate. I want to play test without a Grove of the Guardian right now, since like the Precinct Captain, I am struggling with it's usefulness. Yes, an 8/8 is great, but 1 in the main and likely by the time I draw it and can afford to sacrifice it, Wayfaring Temple will likely popped and have the potential of being more powerful than an 8/8. Thoughts? Drop a Trostrani? The cheap populate ability is king IMHO. I'll sideboard something to replace her with if it proves necessary with 3, but I'm thinking it will be better to have 3... maybe I'm wrong, so I'll have something to replace her with in the sideboard and play test a bit.

I will for sure add another RIP to my sideboard and look for some Oblivion Ring's. I'll throw in some Dryad Militant's until I get my hands on the Ring's. Thanks again for your comments.

Nice deck, maybe one less slime molding for call of the conclave or a virtue to make it a little stronger one on one see how it plays out.

With the Precinct Captain and Rogue's Passage, you get a 1/1 token when you successfully deal damage to a player. Now, if you have Parallel Lives in play, you get 2 1/1. They can be used to chump block, thus saving your creature cards for attacking and populating. As for Trostani, I never really see the value in having more than 2 copies of any legendary. I know it increases your chances of pulling one, but as you can only have one in play at a time, they also clog up your deck. I mostly agree with you on the Grove of the Guardian. However, I have popped that thing on turn 4 and 5 before. With the Selesnya Charm, you can give it trample, have an 8/8 blocker, or use the Rogue's Passage to have an unblockable 8/8. Of course, I run Arbor Elves and Avacyn's Pilgrims in my populate deck for ramping, which may make a huge difference for me as opposed to you.I have yet to include Rogue's Passage, mostly because I have been working on a G/W Aggro deck. But I'm planning on playing my deck at FNM this week (didn't get to last week) and I should have it in there by then. Here's my populate deck:

I like this one a lot better. Looks extremely strong with a very clean, balance mana base.
