Deck Description

Had to come up with a new Vintage/Legacy deck to run instead of the Nether Void one.

Been running this deck for a couple weeks now and it does extremely well...

Deck discussion for MBC 2.0

Hmmm, very nice. It's incredibly stable, can make dangerous moves at any given point, and it has the best four mana creature yet to be printed as a beater.

I really like this, but I still think Nether Void could be thrown in here for the vintage games. Legacy though, I can't think of way to change it that would benefit it other than shaping it for the metas I play at.

I've been banned from using my other deck with Nether Void, so I had to come up with something new.
I've already made one friend stop playing against this deck. He plays elves and this deck eats them up very quickly. Even his Chameleon Colossus can't avoid being sacrificed...

I can understand them banning you from using the nether void version entirely, I tried my newest deck with it on workstation, and kept getting disconnections :|

As for dealing with elves, this is probably one of the funniest decks I've seen for the task.

For a while i was running Mortician Beetles instead of Hypnotic Specters and they may be fun, but just a big creature with no trample or any other effect got me annoyed after a while, so i opted for more control with the good o' hippies.

What do you think of the Masacre Wurm and Black Sun idea stated below?

And have you tried Masacre Wurm out at all, he's a lot of fun to use.

I've enjoyed some fun with Massacre Wurm against Elves, but I think Black Sun is the better option due to recursion.

I think one or two in the SB would be pretty slick against a lot of the higher end aggro decks, except maybe Affinity, but that's in a league of its own for aggro really.

And Mortician Beetle works best in a deck that can clear faster, like say the versions of Trainwreck running Grave Pact. I loved it in my old sacrifice deck, and it's good for suicides in standard with Demon of Deaths Gate, but overall I find myself in concurrence with you about it just being another vanilla beater.

Ah yes, the recursion is definately a good bonus. I think i just have a soft spot for the Wurm.

I originally learned magic with green and Craw Wurm was my favorite along with Force of Nature. That is until someone hit it with Terror and i instantly fell in love with Black. So anytime a Wurm shows up in black i tend to like it and the fact is kinda works like a Bloodfire Colossus/Magma Giant is just an added bonus.

I was running a Demon of Death's Gate for a while, but it was too inconsistant. I'm still trying to figure a good deck for Hellcarver Demon...

I don't think I've really found a demon in MtG that I've liked really.. Except for Tombstalker, but that's just because that dude is more boss than Andy Samberg.

I've heard of using Hellcarver with doomsday, for some... Interesting results.

Doomsday with Hellcarver demon seems like a very specific stack you need... I don't like relying too much on certain combos unless i can make sure it goes off each and every time.

Tombstalker is boss for sure, but I'm still a softy for Grinning Demon. Afterall he's Juzam Djinn's younger and more abusive brother.

I forgot about Grinning, haven't seen that one since the first day I played actually... Very much the more abusive twin to Juzam.

And Hellcarver+Doomsday has a lot of stacks you can use, but it is admittedly limited. On the bright side it's incredibly amusing.

I used to run 4 Grinning Demons instead of Juzam in the Vintage control with Nether Void, but occasionally i'd get stunned by Force of Will and the Grinning Demon tended to hurt me way too quickly compared to Juzam.

He is by far a cheaper route to go though.

But now we finally have something even better than Juzam, the Obliterator is probably my favourite four mana card in the game right now.

I never really have managed to get my hands on some Juzams, so I can totally agree with Grinning being a decent alternative. Friend of mine has an uncle who trades pretty much anything but his power nine when he sees somebody with them, so the few times I've seen them, it's not been for long...

It's taken me a long time to get the great cards that I have in my collection. Juzam is right up there as my favorite, but Chaos Orb was the first "big-time" card i ever traded to get and Underworlds Dreams (when it was worth 20+ dollars) was after.

I still remember staring at the original Nightmare forever because of the nice bright artwork and the fact it was such a powerful creature back then. It still is now, but to drop it too early is pointless.

Favorite 4 CMC in magic right now is a tie between Nether Void, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, and Phyrexian Obliterator. Honorable mention; Nevinyrral's Disk.

What about Transguild Courier? He's an anomaly all his own... ha ha

I've never been really been big on Jace 2.0, but Nether Void and the Disk are up there. The Transguild I've always wanted to use because it's just one of those 'wait, the hell?' Cards.

Transguild is my hero, I play that card for that simple fact... along with Bronze Bombshell and other weirdly named and/or out of wack cards. Lots of fun...

Guy... you would play that for that reason alone. You're a crazy bastard.

W&U, why no love for Jace 2.0? I'm excited about Jace 3.0, he looks like a lot of fun with a free Glimpse the Unthinkable... and an inverted Horrifying Revelation.

Jace 3.0 is confirmed completely then? Wow... I've seen the red section of the black book for m12, but no idea what's for blue.

If Jace 3.0 is real, vintage blue control players are going to jizz themselves.

Well, I guess vintage blue players have a new toy then. I personally prefer combo to control in vintage though, because it's really all I know how to make for the format T_T

Well i have a friend who plays a very balanced black deck that does very well. Usually has answers for most things, small control, no real combos... it just works. I'll get the decklist and post it tomorrow.

Consuming Vapors can create awkward situations from time to time. Using it early as control could come back and bite you against the amount of creature-lite decks in both formats. That said, Black Sum might be a useful alternative, or at least a sideboard option, to help keep things calm; I actually prefer it over damnation as it can be biased to protect your Obliterators.

Otherwise, I agree with White, very solid. I love how MBC is shaping up. Keep up the good work.

I love consuming vapors a lot, against decks with less creatures i replace 3 of them with specter's shroud and equip it to an Obliterator, they can either block it and sac permanents or take 5 and discard.

As for damnation i've been looking at Masacre Wurm as the replacement. I've used it a few times and it can work very effectively... but sometimes, not so much. Black Sun might be a better way though... maybe drop the 4 damnations and replace it with 2 Wurms and 2 Suns?

I hate Consuming Vapors a lot...

But i gotta agree with Rusted Bucket, damnation does kinda kill your Phyrexian Obliterator. Masacre Wurm may be a good approach and the same with Black Sun...

Granted the Wurm would help destroy your vast army of elves, but people rocking somewhat larger things can be a pain in the arse.

Life's Finale was an idea i had for a while, but if i have to pay more than 4 to whipe the board, i'd rather not lose my creatures in the process.

I... hate... you... ha ha! J/K I just hate this deck. Sacrifice a creature, sacrifice a creature, remove all of these from your deck and hand, let me see you hand and then remove all of them, oh and by the way eat 5 or sac 5 permanents.
Seriously... my elves hate you more and more every day sir... EVERY DAY!

You could always try to run your Kithkin deck against me, but that doesn't do too well i would think, they are just as small as elves.

What can i say? I'm a black mana caster... a Phyrexian at heart with a Dimir exterior.

Nothing costs over 4 mana to produce in this deck. Cabal Coffers is not needed with Dark Rituals there to gain the early advantage.
