Deck discussion for American Gladiotors!

You could add young pyromancer to increase the flexibility a bit, perhaps taking out aurelias fury? With 20 lands it wont get used for more than 2-3 at the max. Young pyromancer also gives an infinite combo with battlefield thaumaturge and launch the fleet which is pretty fun, and it can be returned to the battlefield with tethmos. Also there should be stronger heroic activators than teleportal in my opinion

Young Pyromancer does not go infinite with Thaumaturge + Launch. It's only one spell, even if it had infinite targets, so you only get 1 trigger. Plus, you can't re-target creatures with strive, just for future reference.

To drakeraenes, I think Weapon Surge isn't so great in this deck. Its overload cost isn't reduced by Thaumaturge or anything, and when overloaded it doesn't give you any heroic triggers. So you could run Coordinated Assault or Rouse the Mob instead.

weapon surge and teleportal may not give triggers when overloaded, but they provide flexibility. they can target if i need them to, or i can use them to get every creature at once. basically, if i overload a spell, its because i wont need the triggers.

and as for aurelia's fury, if i can get out just the land i need to cast it, then im golder. i can use it to target each of my creatures as well, only dealing 1 to them, but triggering their heroic in the process. that way, even if they have no counters on them, they will get 1 when targeted and therefore not die when the spell resolves. then i can just do what i most likely would use the leftover targets and maybe any leftover mana to pump the spell more and deal extra damage to things on my opponent's field. either way, im not taking out aurelia's fury. it is too good for this deck to NOT include it

Ah thats true sorry wasnt thinking lol, not infinite indeed, maybe not pyromancers. But regardless, aurelias fury is a bad spell with 20 lands, regardless of battlefield thaumaturge or not. Against control it might work; ping elspeths tokens for free, 1 to elspeth and then 1 to player, but it most cases it seems bad here, you just dont have the mana. But maybe your meta is different, whatever works i suppose!

i typically only ever need 20 lands with such a low curve. if the curve of the deck is higher than i will add more land
