Deck discussion for Diet 10L

Ten-land stompy is the cutest thing. If I had the dollars, that's all I'd do, all day.

cute? congratulations, you are without question the first person to ever describe 10L stompy as 'cute'. :)

Dude, it's adorable. If I had a stompy deck, I'd name it something like, uhhh... Cupcakes. And hug it.

Out of curiosity, your "Bumfuck" deck.... What's the price tag on that bad boy, 'Goyfs and all?

i think it is around $300, maybe a hair less.

That's really not as terrible as I thought it'd be. I remember that Caw Blade was like $700 for like a minute.

funny thing is that about $220 of the deck is made up of the tarmogoyfs and berserks. but there is a good reason for that: those cards, to use your phrase, are better than porn. :)

0_o; Bumfuck is only three hundred US?! I can only pray our resident green player never learns of this...

This is a really great deck Wumpus, and shockingly competitive for a budget deck. Not going to lie, this is one of the best stompy decks I've seen even. It's better than some I've seen people make running a playset of tarmogoyf!

thank you! :D i can not make anything control-based worth a damn, but i hope this helps show that i know what i am doing when aggro is concerned. :)

Dude, you and Joe took the cake for aggro long ago. Joe has affinity, which is obnoxious as shit since I keep seeing netdecks of it, and you have Stompy.
Both very valid threats, but featuring very different methods of approach. I haven't really found myself in a better position of one than the other, the closest being Reanimator not having to worry about Tezz kills from Stompy.

Don't worry, it might have only been $300 when Wumps built it, but according to average prices listed at magiccards.info

Berserk: $47.16 (x3: $141.48) <- That's from FTV, if you got an unlimited Berserk you're talking another $60 or so.
Tarmagoyf: $104.24 (x2: 208.48)
Gaea's Cradle: $62.03 (x2: 124.06)
TOTAL: 474.02

Plus all the other stuff in there too :)

Holy crap, when did Goyf prices jump up so much?! O_O

0

Well, magiccard.info and Gatherer now show Modern legality, so perhaps there's a push to make it an official paper format. It was around the same time I noticed that, that I also noticed Goyf jumped up from like.. $60 to $100.. so maybe there's a correlation?

Wow, actually, that makes a lot of sense. I have 3 "extra" Goyfs layin' around...Maybe I should sell them before the price drops. I'm guessing sooner or later Goyf is gonna get banned from Modern, so that will probably drop the price back down.

Or you can add them to your will, next to those four Bloodghasts :P

Yeah. I was looking to trade for a pair of them.. I think a friend who quit a while back has one or two.. but not now >.>

4 Bloodghasts? Dude, I have 36 Bloodghasts...8 of which are foils...

I know :P I was referencing my "five questions" to your last celebration deck, one of which I asked something along the lines of "Would you consider putting me in your will to inherit a portion of your collection?" to which you replied about your Bloodghast ;)

the price estimate i got for it was around $125, which is better than my goal of cutting the price in half! :D

Dude! I understand that they're uber good and everything, but you could even cut the cost down way further if you replaced the Cradles with some other landish card or something - not even sure what to be honest, but the Cradle itself makes up like 85% of this deck's cost I'd bet!

0
Posted 19 August 2011 at 19:46

The issue with Cradles, as I understand it, is that they're damn near essential to a 10L working, especially with Winter Orb murdering the opponent. Maybe Wumps could make it work without them, which would be sweet, but I dunno if it's even possible =/

Right, and I understand that. I was just noticing how crazy cheap the "bulk" of this deck is when you consider that of the $125 for the deck, over 100 of it comes from merely 2 of the land is all!

wouldn't this technically fall under the 9L category? ;)

If you used the white border Sylvan Library from 5th, it wouldn't hurt the price too much... =P

i suppose in some instances sylvan library would work as a somewhat decent replacement for skullclamp should someone have an issue with it. :|

So if this is "Diet", then what would a "Zero" version be? =P

0

it would be some bland and flavorless piece of crap, much akin to how it is with all 'zero' beverages. :P

2

It'd say it has just as much punch as the original 10L Stompy, but it'd be based around Wood Elemental.

I'm more inclined to agree with Wumpus on this one, I accidentally drank a coke zero once... Never again... It tasted like nothing resembling a coke.

Also, congratulations on front page again!

This is the zero version, estimating a cost of about $40 or less. It seems to work, thanks to the ideas Wumps presented here :)

I've been fiddling around with Hollow Trees or bounce lands place of Gaea's Cradle, but haven't been able to make it work.. was hoping you might have thought something along those same lines when I presented the challenge :) But, I guess it just doesn't work without Cradle.

Great job cutting a whole $350 out of the budget :O !!

Mind if I take this deck idea and post up my own variation of it and see what people think of it? It might not be too different than this deck, so I'll say I got the idea from this deck...

Hiya DTW =) You recently commented on my attempt for a 10L Stompy - http://www.mtgvault.com/blckfirphoenx/decks/stomplicity/ - just wondering, how many Gaea's Cradle are needed to make it function properly? If we imagine I have the funds to Invest solely in the aforementioned expensive-as-hell mtg trading Card?

[Sorry - forgot to make a comment on this one. I thought I already had. What's your take on 'Expedition Map?' to fetch the cradle?]
