I've always loved Dwarves. In any game where it's possible to be a Dwarf, that's me! So when I saw Dwarves in Aether Revolt, i knew I had to build a deck based on them. There are some very complimentary cards in the set. The swords all appear in the Inventions in Kaladesh, or in the corresponding set for Aether Revolt, so i think should be legal in Standard(?) I've had to use cards from older sets for the Vault (and for my play testing deck so far..)It seems to work really well, even when the obvious combo's aren't in play.Because Dwarves are renowned for being distrustful of magic, i have avoided the use of Sorcery and Instant cards. Well... That and the fact that there was nothing that really added much to the concept.
Authority of the Consuls really slows your opponent down and should be a turn one card if possible. The additional life is just a useful byproduct really. I haven't had to rely on it thus far.Aethergeode Miner and Conviction really fuel the "Revolt" effect of Call For Unity (boosting all creatures you control by cumulative +1 / +1 each turn), Solemn Recruit (boosting itself by a cumulative +1 / +1 each turn), Countless Gears Renegade (adding a 1/1 token to take advantage of Call for unity bonus) and Deadeye Harpooner (to destroy opponent creatures affected by Authority of the Consuls). Attack with Miner and exile then return to the battlefield after combat if not blocked, or at "assign blockers" if blocked and blocking would kill it. alternatively, you can return conviction to your hand. Its best to ensure you will have 2 spare mana to cast it next turn, if you can.The swords are to boost and protect either Solemn Recruit or Aerial responder, but can be used on a Miner, as returning miner to your hand leaves the Sword in play to be equipped by another creature. Side board to get the appropriate colour protections. Conviction works well on miner early game to get some good initial damage.Restoration specialist can return swords or enchants to your hand if removed from play, but should be side boarded for Audacious Infiltrator for Artifact creature decks.Solemn Recruit with double strike, continually boosted by itself and Call for unity is a real beast, especially if protected against the opponents prevailing colour (yes, i'm in the UK so spell it correctly!) with the appropriate sword. Just remember Dwarves are quick to anger and have long memories!

FYI, Masterpiece cards are not automatically Standard legal, nor Modern legal. They are only legal in the same format as their "normal" / non Masterpiece prints. This means that the Swords are not legal. The only exception to this is in sealed events like a Prerelease or Booster Draft. You may also want to consider splashing red for Veteran Motorist (scry and 3/1 for 2 mana) and Depala, Pilot Exemplar (a Dwarf lord). And some burn :pMetallic Mimic is also worth considering. Just call Dwarf and all your Dwarves enter with a +1/+1 counter :D

Ah, Thanks for that info ( and the name correction on the collections). That's a bit of a bummer if they are including those cards in boosters and they cant be used in Standard. Feels like padding out the pack.I don't play in competitions these days myself, but do like to stay contemporary, so that's a shame. Will have to rethink the swords perhaps. Having played the deck, it really doesn't need any burn, and a static +1/+1 to my mind, doesn't justify diluting the mana stream. Also, the Mimic, while a nice idea, even if it pretends to be a Dwarf, just isn't one, so wouldn't pass inspection. (I'm a bit anal about my Dwarves!)I appreciate your input though, and its nice to see that you grasped the idea behind the deck.
The Expeditions in the Battle for Zendikar block where a test to see how the community would respond to printing some much needed cards for other formats and including them in boosters. It was largely well received, so now they're probably going to do it with every block. BTW, Masterpiece is the collective name for all of them, regardless of what set's boosters they came in. Expedition is the name for the Masterpiece lands from the Battle for Zendikar block, while Invention is the name for the artifacts found in the boosters of the Kaladesh block. I'm fond of themed decks, and tribal especially. I ran an Elf deck ever since Lorwyn came out, and that super block (Lorwyn + Morningtide + Shadowmoor + Eventide) cared a lot for tribal (in Lorwyn and Morningtide) and colour (in Shadowmoor and Eventide) [I'm South African and I too spell things properly :p ], so that is probably where my love for synergy in decks started.
Ah, okay.. that does make a bit more sense. I dropped out of MTG for many years so don't recognize them as "old" cards, hence my confusion. Are you able to make any suggestions for replacement to make the deck Standard compatible?I've had a quick scan for other artifact equipment, but nothing really has a similar impact that I have found..
Kaladesh block only has two equipment: Inventor's Goggles, which auto equips to Artificers; and Torch Gauntlet. Both are commons and only give a small P/T boost. I guess vehicles took up most of the equipment slots as the work in a similar fashion. Seeing that you just got back into the game, I'm not sure you want to go further back than the Kaladesh block. Here's hoping Amonkhet has some nice equipment.
