Deck Description

Munchies: Abzan fatty critter synergy

Here's the theory: Lovestruck Beast and Devouring Sugarmaw are interesting cards on their own, as they are big ol fatties on the cheap that have limitations build into them to balance those fat asses. On their own, they don't seem that viable. But played together, with some interesting support, they might be good enough to compete.

Lovestruck Beast needs a 1/1, which is very easy to keep active in a deck like this. Specifically, it makes it's own token, Dryad Arbor/Green Sun's Zenith combo, Devouring Sugarmaw spawns a 1/1, Orcish Bowmasters gives you 2, Haywire Mite is fetchable via Saga. Kaya's Guile spawns a 1/1 flyer. Translation: there will be a 1/1 that lets the beast loose, which should give you your 5/5 beater swinging for the fences every turn.

Devouring Sugarmaw needs sac outlets, which again offers opportunities if constructed correctly. It spawns 2 tokens on its own at instant speed, buying you 2 turns of serious damage that's very hard to stop. Orcish Bowmasters gives you 2 critters minimum to potentially sack with spawning potential. Plenty of token suppliers to feed the beast. And the big draw is the artifacts that do what they're supposed to do and are ok being sacked. Nihil Spellbomb gets the draw when it dies (and is fetchable by Saga). Tithing Blade gets you a +0 interaction, then can be sacked off, limiting opponent's ability to block (Menace). Urza's Saga spawns tokens that like artifacts as well, which gives you options to sac or attack.

A few other synergy pieces in play that help move things along. Urza's Saga fetches you what you need, which fits into both the Beast and the Sugarmaw, but also the third fun piece of the deck, Glissa the Traitor, who benefits from dying artifacts, especially artifacts that kill things. Glissa + Executioner's Capsule = perfect synergy. Glissa is fetchable by Zenith.

Zenith in general fixes many problems, and can always give you the turn 1 Dryad Arbor, which gives you the turn 2 active Beast or a turn 2 Beast token with 2 available mana for more shenanigans (which I much prefer, as you're going to probably out material opponent). Combined with Saga, Zenith makes it almost guaranteed that you'll have access to the hate you need when you need it, putting the build (hopefully) over the top.

Will this work in the new modern? I have no idea. There's still all the archetypical nonsense like Eldrazi, Tron, and Murktide to deal with, so I guess we'll see how it goes.

Feedback appreciated.
