Deck Description

This is a slightly updated version of a deck I keep to play Modern in a more casual format. So, its not designed to take to tournaments, meaning it isn't keyed directly to deal with the popular meta. It also has the advantage of being semi-budget friendly.

The strategy here is to take advantage of all the control tropes you can in combination of the tempo and material advantage that grixis has to offer, particularly in its 3-drop lineup. Bonecrusher Giant, Electrolyze, and Kolaghan's Command all give you a tempo and material boost, and fit in a good saturation with the rest of the build.

The win conditions are as follows:

-agro damage from the critters/Hall of Storm Giants
-incidental burn damage from Countersquall, Electrolyze, Kolaghan's Command, and the traditional burn mechanics (bolt, etc).
-recurring burn damage from Kess

Worth mentioning, the all-star of this build is Hard Evidence, my newest love affair. I've talked about it before, but I've waited for years for blue to finally get a card like it. It protects you, retains tempo, retains material, and is a flipping common to boot.

Deck discussion for Modern Grixis Control

Heh, I've been playing sage of Epityr for years for the reasons why you love hard evidence.
Recently I've also included overwhelmed apprentice in that category. (Overwhelmed isn't a common though)

I do believe both are superior to hard evidence as both can get you to draw more lands if you are manascrewed.

That will be harder with hard evidence because it demands 2 mana to draw.

Deck looks nice appart from those hard evidence.

Here's a post on why sage of Epityr is awesome
