The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

The Question: Is Viashino Pyromancer of any value in Modern?Positives:-has a "hit the board" effect, which generates good tempo-is cost effective-isn't conditional at all-good in the opening hand and not a dead drawNegatives:-advantage generated isn't overwhelming (2 damage to the face for 2 mana isn't optimal)- 2/1 for 2 on its own isn't good-other 2/1 for 2 options exist in this mana slot (snapcaster, young pyromancer, etc)Discussion:I'm not exactly sure about this one. The major deck I can see it being a candidate for is burn or a burn-esk-build, but perhaps there is some sideboard potential too since superfriends is a thing, jace is back, and its an extra creature to sub in against stuff that hates fast creatures. And, maybe at a stretch it could be thought of as a damage outlet in grixis control.True, its not an overpowered card by any means, and has no potential to revolutionize the game like its fellow 2/1 2-drop snap did, but in my mind its at least worth considering as a new way to accomplish what some decks want to accomplish: field presence and a bleeding effect, both at a playable curve.I've been experimenting with exactly that type of deck on my own recently, a quick "hits the field" build that would love a turn 2 drop that bleeds and starts a clock or prevents one. Please feel free to comment, as I'm sort of in the dark about this one myself.

Card seems quite good indeed. The real question is it as good as Eidolon of the great revel? Because that is what it is competing with. I think it falls just short to be honest. Even if they use a removal spell on the Eidolon it basically just does what this does anyway. 2 damage.

It definitely won't be able to compete with its rare / mythic brethren, but I think it being a Wizard might be relevant in some cases. I'm willing to see if I can make a "budget" mono red Wizard Burn deck, which the Viashino would be a strong addition to not only ping for 2, but be another body to turn Wizard's Lightning into another Bolt. But beyond interactions like that, Snappy and Eidolon outclass it and earn their higher rarities (and then some).
Also works well with the Izzet "ETB" wizard deck that is fairly popular at FNM. At least at my shop. With Naban. The guys who doubles ETBs with wizards. 4 damage though. Seems good.
I can see a Panharmonicon / Naban deck taking full advantage of the Viashino's ETB.
I agree with everything everyone is saying, which is a shame. I was hoping the little guy would be able to make a push into modern play, but there seem to be more viable options in his slot in most circumstances.Maybe a deck that doesn't use blue but still want's the etb damage and field presence? It's a hope
Something to keep in mind if that scenario ever comes up. Stranger things have happened.
