How to Play

the deck is very easy to play. turns 3-5, assuming u hit your land drops, are your most crucial turns. especially if u have an arbor elf. if that happens u should have 4-5 mana on turn 3. the best position u can be in on turn 3 is a master biomancer thats enchanted with a rancor. things will get nasty FAST! when i was originally testing the deck and i didnt have a sideboard, geist was in the main deck. heres the scenario. on turn 4, i had master biomancer with a rancor on him, an arbor elf and geist of saint traft. to start my turn, i played a sunpetal grove. then i cast silverblade paladin and he entered the battlefield with 4 +1/+1 counters(6/6). i did not soulbond. i was playing against a budget boros deck and my opponent was completely tapped out. i attacked with geist of saint traft and master biomancer. the 4/4 angel entered with 4 counters making him an 8/8 and i soulbound it to silverblade paladin. the angel alone accounted for 16 damage. biomancer hit for 4 and geist hit for 2. thats 22 damage on turn 4. ive never heard of a bant deck other than mine that packs more of a punch. thats not all the deck has going for it. its got thragtusks, restoration angels, and an angel of serenity.

Deck discussion for Bant Midrange [Standard]

i really like your deck idea. im also trying to build a deck on my own, and i know how hard it is to get a nice smooth deck that can compete :)
(if you want to check it out here it is http://www.mtgvault.com/arcticsniper/decks/humans-and-demons-re/)

here some suggestions:

- ild remove 1-2 geists as hes legendary you can only have 1 in play. i also think that there are better creatures avaiable then the centauri healer
- how about adding 1-2 garruk primal hunter? he provides creatures tokens, and also will allow you to draw a lot of cards. actually a friend of mine is playing an elf deck and garruk is incredibly strong.
- mayb Armada Wurm is also an interesting card, especially when combined with the restoration angel ( i know this makes your deck a little bit more mainstream :)
- another valuable card might be Abundant Growth. its a card i haven t seen a lot these day, but its so sweet, you can play it for free (e.g. in second turn).

As i said in the description, everyone at my shop is playing naya blitz which tends to consistently win on turn 4 due to its speed. the idea is to look like a slow midrange to get those decks to go all in and let their guard down so i can go in for the one hit wonder. (Assuming they took damage from lands.) geist is a 4-of because he is arguably the most important creature in the deck. those naya decks arent at all worried about blocking and they never have an untapped creature anyway so thats make it easy to win with one hit. the idea is to get out geist on turn 2. they will probably have attacked so ill be able to hit for six damage without a problem. turn 3, i drop the silverblade paladin and when i attack with geist i pair the angel with silverblade. again they will most likely be tapped out so thats 10 damage. that leaves them at four life and they instantly have to have an answer or they are dead. the deck is technically considered a midrange but can end it on turn 4. if i dont get that good hand i need, it can take a few turns longer. thats y the life gain creatures are there. they give me life and block. thats crucial to staying alive and mounting a comeback.

I don't like it. Sphinx revelation first and formost. I have never played that card and lost. It is possible, it just hasn't happened to me. Next off farseek for a stomping grounds, run kessig wolf run, and drop the silver blade paladin. I get sigarda, I understand sigarda, and she stops a bit of the black players, but I don't run her. A five five flying hexproof you don't sac for five. Nothing about that I don't like, its just she isn't good enough.

Most of your lands will enter tapped. Half of them hurt you. Don't overload on the dual lands! Get some lands that do stuff for you, like Gavony Township or Grove of the Guardian.

Geist is a mythic rare legendary creature! He cost Thirty big ones per copy! Why would you run four? You can only has one out at a time, he always needs to be buffed to use him, and the angel he makes isn't causing shinnigans like it should. When I run a card that expensive, it combos out to gain me life, keep me that token, and swing for leathal.

I get centuar healer. Yet four copies? Three maybe two, throw in a field wipe, or a counter instead. You can gain all the life you want, but with aggro, and skull crack, you could find your self wanting. Most things are looking like they are gonna be indestructible, so Aetherize or cyclonic rift, or blustersqull, or sudden dissappearence, will get rid of them, and they are all one sided. I run a bant deck too! I actually own it, and it cost me sweat and blood. So before you drop the expensive cards and say it works, take a look at ways to shave down the cost, and get the best value for your cards.

honestly your suggestions to throw in verdict, sphinx revelation, etc is retarded. i would play those if this was a control deck but its not. at my local shop our tournaments are usually 5 rounds and top 8 playoffs. this deck has made top 8 3 weeks in a row so the deck actually works. the thing about this deck is its flexibility. its very flexible even without sideboard. it beats aggro in a race, destroys midrange with giant creatures early game, and gives control a run for its money without sideboard. and btw, i have this deck exactly as it is on this site so dont insinuate that i dont know what im talking about.

Hey man, don't take offense, we are only trying to help you. If its working for you, don't worry about it. If the decks you play are all naya blitz, then this will work.

I am worried about how effective this deck would be against the infinite combos. If you aren't running aggro to out pace combo, or control to stop it, it eats you alive. Were I play? Well you can pretty much expect everything, Naya Blitz, Boros Aggro, Boros Infinte, Orzoh Infinite, Infinite mill, Humaninmator, ever style of mid range, the tournament quality decks here are numerous.

Trust from someone who has played against it all, you need answers for everything, and since you can't run everything, you just have to go with the best that you got and hope for the best.

the only reason i got defensive is because your comment seemed arrogant. My shop is exactly the same as yours. u can expect every deck u would see at a gp or pro tour top 8. the deck does perform effectively. the matchup against aggro is tough but no where near impossible to win. with just a decent hand it beats naya blitz in a race. thats mostly because of soulbonding silverblade with geist's angel. what makes this deck so good is that it has modes. it can be very aggressive or it can be somewhat of a controlling midrange. the reason there is only 2 copies of rest in peace is because against the reanimater decks i usually take the aggressive path of the game and by the time they can get a good target with rites, they're usually dead on board. last friday these were my matchups: Round 1 - W 2-0 vs reckoner control. Round 2 - W 2-0 vs UWR Aura. Round 3 - L 1-2 vs a wierd esper that plays 4 rest in peace and 4 misthollow griffens. Round 4 L 1-2 vs experiment jund. Round 5 W 2-1 vs naya human blitz. i got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. i had a rematch against the guy with the misthollow esper and lost again.
