Deck discussion for Standard Crater

I really like this. If you can get the ball rolling seems that you will just walk through them.

thx and yah that was my idea on the design. and just in case it isnt enough, u can sub in the surges to just drop everything at one time. the createrhoofs alone could kill if everything is dumped lol.

how about replacing experiment one with gyre sage? He has evolve so he's be the same as experiment one but he'll get the ball rolling quicker with the mana so you can drop out craterfoot behemoth as soon as possible =p

Gyre sage has mana, Experiment One can regenerate himself in case of a removal card.
There's so many things that gives mana faster than gyre sage, so it's simply outclassed in early ramping. Lategame, sure, but you don't want to wait too long with dropping your huge creatures, that's being greedy.

sort of. i know what ur thinking chew but One goes with the theme here as well. this is a standard stompy deck and he just gets bigger by the turns till he reaches a 3/3. by then its more than likely ganna be game over.

-4 witchstalkers (to the SB)
+4 Garruk, Caller of Beasts

the synergy that the new Garruk has in creature based decks is too good to be ignored in a build like this. I run G/W Elves, and you can hoof for the win on turn 4, with the right draws.

the theme for the deck is y the witchstalker is in. i thought about the garruk but feel he is just too bulky here. maybe Theros will have a few toys here.

like I said, I run G/W elves, which is a Craterhoof Stompy deck, and Garruk fits perfectly. hes not bulky, he protects himself by dropping a creature, he potentially draws you 5 cards, and his ultimate is stupid good. witchstalker is just a 3/3 here, unless youre playing against blue or black. its a SB card, imo.

The green god from Theros will be pretty sweet here. Also, garruk caller of beasts can easily refill your hand or drop a craterhoof immidietly for free.

from what i have seen so far, there r a few toys that would be pretty awesome here. idk i feel like that garruk would be too bulky in this deck. its a stompy build after all.

Well, if you want to try garruk, you could, it's not like your deck is going to be permanently damaged by trying a few games with him :P

Supreme verdict/any board wipe. Control would wipe the floor with this deck in standard, it's also one of the most common archetypes in standard at the moment. If your deck can't smash out your craterhoof at turn 3/4 before the verdict comes out almost every time then it isn't worth it. I don't know what your local meta is like, but in most places you will find control players.

Aggro decks will wipe the floor with you, especially in red. They'll just shock your mana dorks to slow you down and then pummel you before you can even get craterhoof out, and they will do that instinctively because when you're playing rdw's you're meant to kill mana dorks early regardless of whether they know you are playing craterhoofs in there. RDW is also one of the most popular mono coloured decks at the moment in standard.

Maybe you could face mid-ranged... that's about it.

Also, what happens when you don't draw a crater hoof, or it gets countered? You don't have any other win conditions except maybe riding out a rancor on a mana dork and crossing your fingers, hoping that they top deck badly.

Sorry man, but i don't think this deck will work unless you're just making a casual deck, in which case why make it standard legal?

Also, beast within is from new phyrexia and is not a standard card, so this deck isn't even standard legal because of your sideboard.

decks like this work just fine. I won the M14 gameday with G/W Elves, and the only real difference between that and this is the number of mana guys and Garruk CoB. Hoof is legit.

gremere102-if u must know i dont play standard at any tourneys, i just dont have the funds or the time. i enjoy the challenge of making a standard deck even if it is for the table top. as far as its power level, got news for u man, ANY deck will have a weakness to most others. would this destroy a control or burn player maybe not, but playing magic is in itself a gamble when u think about it. im banking on getting craterhoof out fast while u may be banking to draw that verdict just to stop it all. btw, i had something else in mind other than BW not sure y it was included for the sb and idr what i had in mind.

NinjaStyle612- thx maybe i will consider splashing in some white to keep things more balanced.

White was mostly for the SB. the deck I ran only had Garruk as a non creature spell. the rest were lands and creatures. WHite was for Restoration Angel, and post sideboard Thalia.

be that as it may, they seem like worthy options for a sb none the less man. personally great choices for the sb.
