Update to my Pioneer Chandra tribal control deck after some testing at FNM last night. This build still needs to be tested.Sidebaord changes based on what I expect to face at the local meta. But there are some consistent choices:4th Anger of the Gods because I need answers to aggro decks.Duress and Awakened Inferno for the control / grindy matchups.
This Combo / Control deck is based on a number of synergies between the different Chandras and Chandra's Regulator / Light Up the Night.Removal and hand disruption is to buy time while setting up the above mentioned synergies.Acolyte of Flame accelerates Torch of Defiance and Dressed to Kill to their ultimates. Their emblems are the deck's main win condition.Acolyte can also help recast interaction spells from the graveyard.Dressed to Kill, Fire Artisan, and Torch of Defiance provide pseudo draw. I often get empty handed / close to empty handed with this deck, so their "draw" helps a lot.Dressed to Kill: Can only cast red spells she exiles, but have until end of turn to do so.Fire Artisan: Can play any card she exiles, including lands, and have until end of turn.Torch of Defiance: Can cast any spell she exiles, but have to cast it immidiatley. Deals 2 damage to the opponent if you don't cast the spell.Dressed to Kill and Torch of Defiance provide some ramp to be able to cast multiple spells, add to the X in Light Up the Night, or ramp into the 6 mana Chandras.Chandra, Hope's Beacon doubles the first spell cast each turn, and provides 2 mana to help cast them. She can also help dig for interaction spells, or act as removal herself.Chandra's Regulator helps tie all this together. In addition to the looting affect, it helps:Double the loyalty Acolyte of Flame adds to all our planeswalkers, getting to ultimates even faster. If you activate Dressed to Kill's [+1] that adds mana, you may as well double it to get an additional 1 point of damage. In additon to getting 2x emblem by doubling Dressed to Kill's [-7] exiles the top 10 cards, which increases the chance of getting playable red cards.Only the [+1] on Fire Artisan is worth doubling. Doubling the [-7] does not double the damage done to the opponent as the damage effect is a separate ability.Doubling Hope's Beacon's [+2] nets you 4 mana. Doubling her [+1] is dangerous, but doubling her [-X] doubles the effect without losing double the loyalty and allows you to target more targets. Doubling Chandra, Torch of Defiance's mana ability nets you 4x{R}. Doubling her emblem is a win condition. Doubling her "draw" effect is tricky: You have to cast the card as part of the ability resolving, so you can't wait to see the 2nd card before casting the 1st.The other win combo: Fire Artisan + Light Up the Night (Flashback).Because Acolyte of flame puts a loyalty on each of our planeswalekrs, the Flashback part of Light Up the Night can deal a TON of damage for only 4 mana (mana some of the Chandra's can [+] to help pay for), but removing loyalty from Fire Artisan does additional damage because of her static ability.
