Just tossing ideas around with a friend about bringing "Pestilence" to Modern with the help of Pyrohemia.
Main combo is Pyrohemia with a creature that has protection from Red. Thanks to the rules on how protection works, Pyrohemia will never kill the prot red creature, thus keeping a creature around to prevent Pyrohemia's self sacrifice effect. Reasons for choice of creatures (besides having protection from red):Kor Firewalker - Gains life for each red spell played by either player. This helps offset the damage Pyrohemia does to you.Auriok Champion - Gains life for each creature entering after it, so a similar role to Kor Firewalker. This also has protection from Black, maki it more resilient against removal. Soltari Priest - This has a little used ability: Shadow. While you won't be blocking much with the priest, it will almost always go unblocked, thus lowering the necessary damage to yourself via Pyrohemia. Reasons for the other cards:Lightning Helix - I chose this over Lightning Bolt for the life gain as Pyrohemia damages you too. Worship - This is a safety net that allows you to activate Pyrohemia regardless of your own life total. Nahiri, the Harbinger - Because this card is just awesome. Also allows for the secondary win condition: Tentacruel. Blood Moon - Arguably red's best control card in the format. Idyllic Tutor - Most mana efficient enchantment search in Modern. It's no Enlightened Tutor, but you take what you can get.

This is a really cool deck, have you play-tested it in a modern tournament? Also, how easy is it to get all that you need? I feel like you might have problems getting out the prot red cards, because they're double white. You have eight plains and only one mountain, which should counteract that a bit, but you can't activate pyrohemia with plains. But then if you take out plains then you definitely won't be able to play the prot red cards, because blood moon is turning all of your non basics to mountains. What are your thoughts on this (if you've play-tested)?

Sadly I have not been able to test this due to not having some of the key cards. Once I get the cards, much testing will be done. I'm considering swapping out Soltari Priest for Thick-Skinned Goblin to somewhat elevate the need for {W}{W} for my prot red creatures.Moon is a big concerning factor for me, it affects my mana base big time. But Moon is such a big controlling factor in Modern.
Cool, you should get back to me if you ever get to test it. Maybe you should add Burrenton Forge-Tender, because it only needs one white mana, and it would be the only thing you can play first turn.
