Deck discussion for Heartless Ordeal

I'm not gonna lie, I love the idea of this deck! I love combo decks a lot, especially cheap ones. I like Shred Memory for the Transmute cost, since it searches for a lot of your deck. You can use Beseech the Queen to search for your combo pieces as well if you want. If you don't want to completely rely on Heartless Summoning, you could use Ashnod's Altar and/or Krark-Clan Ironworks as well. I like the two win conditions being Bitter Ordeal/Falkenrath Noble too (especially Bitter Ordeal)! I might even suggest Tendrils of Agony as well, maybe in place of Perilous Myr?

You could also splash in red for Grapeshot or Green for Fecundity or splash blue for Selhoff Occultist. I like the monoblack way more like you have though. I might add in some kind of card hate just to make sure you'll be fine in place of Lashwrithe, Pawn of Ulamog, and maybe even Massacre Wurm. Granted, I like going all in on the combo for the win.

I'm gonna be completely honest, I'm gonna make a decklist with these combos in it, if you don't mind. Brilliant deck!

If I owned Beseech the Queen,I'd definitely use it in majority of my black decks.

Grapeshot and Selhoff Occultist are cool options. If I where to splash, Grapeshot would definitely be the one I splash for as it costs 2.

As for Ashnod's Altar and Tendrils of Agony, sadly, they're not Modern legal.

Ah, that was my bad. I wasn't really thinking about it being a Modern Deck. The deck makes a lot more sense. I'd still run a little bit of card hate though, especially in a tourney and such. One question though, why run Pawn of Ulamog? If Heartless Summoning is out, it kills all of the spawns. I might be missing something here as well though.

More dead bodies for Bitter Ordeal, in case I can't combo with 2 Retrievers.

Ah, that makes sense.

Junk Diver is the best I can find for another alternative for Myr Retriever, but tutoring for Myr Retriever seems better because it only costs 2 instead of 3 mana.

Junk Diver would be nice as Retrievers 5 and 6, but again, it's not Modern legal. Also, costing 3 makes it not come in for free off 1 Heartless Summoning.

don't get me wrong but doesn't this also just trigger normal storm?

so if I was MADE of cash I could try and splash red into this for empty? That way I can side out the gravestrom that is dead in game 2?

Yes, it does trigger normal storm, you're still casting each Myr Retriever, even if no mana is spent. Grapeshot is the perfect red card to go with it, if I had the money for the duals that'll be needed...

I dunno... grapeshot does basically the same thing as ordeal, so it dies in the same way to leyline. Empty just makes 9999 tokens. Granted they have to live for a turn, but hey ho people are not going to expect it and therefore they arnt going to tech against it.

Also yes, getting the lands for that build literally requires us to sell organs for the amount of cash it costs.

Leyline of the Void kills the looping of the Retrievers, thus stopping any storm (including gravestorm), so even Empty the Warrens wouldn't work. That said, I've been wanting to make a deck based on Empty the Warrens with Goblin Bushwhacker to grant +1/+0 and the all important HASTE.

i was more thinking leyline of sanctity.... i thought more people ran RIP... than ran void but your right leyline breaks all graveyard decks..and in mono black this deck nearly just scoops to that.

I love it! It is similar to my deck but faster and has an infinite combo.
