Deck Description

I was challenged to make a Pauper deck with 4x Colossal Dreadmaw

After playing this deck once at an FNM, I'm contemplating changing out some or all of the 1 cmc ramp cards for 2 cmc ramp spells that put lands onto the battlefield. While I was luckily not paired against the player, there is a player playing Ponza (land destruction), which is not good for the enchantment ramp spells in this deck.

Edit 2024/04/20
Mainboard:
-2 Multani's Acolyte
-4 Skysnare Spider
-1 Greater Tanuki
-1 Timberland Ancient
-1 Elvish Visionary
-1 Wild Growth
-2 Forest

+3 Elfhame Wurm
+3 Tajuru Pathwarden
+4 Owlbear
+2 The Hunter Maze

Changes largely to make space for the 5 drops. Spider removed as Pathwarden and Wurm have Vigilance (spider's main feature) and trample (fits with rest of deck and Ram Through).

Sideboard:
-1 Deglamer
-1 Weather the Storm

+2 Nature's Claim

I wanted a few 1 cmc artifact (and enchantment) hate.

How to Play

Use ramp cards to player the big beat sticks ahead of curve, then beat face with said beat sticks.

Arbor Elf; Utopia Sprawl; and Wild Growth are our ramp spells.
Arbor Elf + Utopia Sprawl / Wild Growth provides a LOT of mana very early. it's possible to have 6 mana on turn 3 using these, which is gets us to Ealy plays of our beat sticks.

Colossal Dreadmaw; Greater Tanuki; Elfhame Wurm; Tajuru Pathwarden; Owlbear; and Timberland Ancient are our beat sticks.
All of these creatures have trample. Elfhame Wurm and Tajuru Pathwarden have VIgilance. Timberland Ancient has Reach instead. VIgilance and Reach are useful depending on the situation.

Greater Tanuki and Timberland Ancient serve double duty here. Ancient gets a land to had to help grantee land drops for 2 mana, while Tanuki gets an additoinal land onto the battlefield (tapped) for 3 mana.

Elvish Visionary and Owlbear draw us a card, wile the Elvish Visionary also serves as an early blocker.

Ram Through is main removal spell. If targeting one of our creatures with trample, this spell also deals excess damage to the opponent (a VERY important aspect).

The sideboard is designed to give an edge against specific decks in my local meta:

Deglamer and Nature's Claim are for the artifact and enchantment matchups, like Affinity.

Fog is largely for the one Slivers deck. It usually gets larger quicker than this deck. Fogging an attack allows us to strike back without issue.

Tamiyo's Safekeeping protects our limited number of beat sticks (limited because of their cost to play, not their quantity in the deck) from removal. Good against the removal heavy colours, like black. Also gains 2 live in the aggro / burn much up while protecting our permanents (including our lands VS land destruction).

Life Goes On and Weather the Storm are for gaining life against burn and aggro decks.
