Mana ramp allows a low mana quantity to qualify larger costing cards. many win conditions but primarily utvara hellkite which synergizes exceedingly well with everything in this deck. NOTE: 2 Balefire Dragons to be replaced with seige Dragons upon Release of M15 NOTE: For moden remove Shamans and Seething song and replace with 3 Dragonmaster Outcast, 2 exuberant firestokers and 2 lands
You want to try and have as many dragons out before dropping utvara to give your opponent less of a chance to remove of counter it. this will allow you to spawn many tokens on the turn it is cast on. this also functions with a fervor in play much more efficientlyKeep in mind you may use Geosurge or Seething song to cast subsequent geosurges or seething songs.

Good deck, could use Crucible of Fire which would give all dragons that you control +3/+3.

Thanks for the tip :)
I like this deck and also very affordable, I just migh make it
i did! its classy and very fun to play
Death by Dragons is a really cheap card (50 cents) that would be fun in this deck. Also, Form of the Dragon is a cheap enchantment (99 cents) that could make the game really interesting.
Death by dragons is interesting but for 6 mana there are many dragons that serve a greater purpose than a basic 5/5 not to mention it wont trigger the active on kilnmouth dragon. form of the dragon is a good card but risky if your opponent controls any unblockable of direct damage , also its price is a tad higher than the purpose this deck is intended to serve. thank you for the suggestions though.
You could add pyretic ritual. Then, turn three, with three lands, pay two to cast pyretic ritual, pay one more and geosurge into balefire dragon.
thats how this deck used to function. its actually just far less reliable and means that if you get countered or killed you just dropped half your hand for nothing. this way theres a steady mana curve and a more consistant playstyle. thanks though
here's my version. not a bargin deck, obviously. i've bought half the cards so far, so i can tell everyone how it plays soon http://www.mtgvault.com/pigeons/decks/thrumming-alongrevised/ the mana ramp potential is pretty insane. turn two moltensteels with the right starting draw hahaedit: pay no attention to that sideboard, by the way. was just sticking cards there so i didn't forget their names. i wouldn't really have them in a sideboard.
Try adding in scourge of valkas for some extra burn every time you drop a dragon.
I've trailed pretty much every mono red dragon in this deck and these are the most functional ones for this purpose i think
Why Dragon Egg?
1# because it completes a mana curve, #2 because its what i call a "discouraging attacks" kind of defender where your opponent wont want to attack due to offering you stronger defence or worse an utvara proc. i had exuberant firestoker for a while but i prefer this mainly because it has dragon as a creature type, is cheap mana wise and synergizes with the deck.
It is just an interesting card. Makes sense. Just never seen anyone have a copy in their dragon decks...at least not on this site.
It's one of those cards I'd only consider in a strict tribal but despite this, in play testing it proved extremely useful especially with the threat of an utvara or the presence of a crucible of fire.
I love dragon egg. Used to run R/B dragons with rescue from the underworld and wild guess. Discard utvara to draw, play dragon egg, sacrifice dragon egg to get utvara back and get dragon egg back. Strionic resonator helps massively. Cool deck btw.
Thanks appreciate the feedback!
"Cavern of Souls" is not very budget friendly, but all dragons "can't be countered" if played.
This is definitely something to consider in any deck just whether or not you are willing to dish out the dough. the only concern i would have would be the (R)(R)(R)(R) cost on geosurge
Right, hmm, I prefer the geosurge in that case.
Have you considered dragon master outcast? Also you said you have dragon egg to discourage attacks, you might look at slumbering dragon since in my experience it makes the opponents not want to attack you as much or it makes them waste a removal early on
I have considered pretty much every card with the word dragon in it. I ended up on this cause its all about getting quick swings with dragon creatures and letting utvara spawn an unstoppable army in as few turns as possible in order to avoid removal. ive trailed lots of non-dragon creatures and slumbering dragon in particular but although it may not look it this deck it pretty fast aggro and you wanna deal all 20 in about 2-3 turns once youre ready and set up. mana ramp is banned for a good reason in standard and modern :P
Then what about assault strobe? I see savage beating but assault strobe is a cheap 1 mana. I'd consider it at the least a worthy side board
additional combat phase + utvara hellkite is gg. its less about the damage than the overwhelming force of 10 6/6,s + potential crucibles buffing them coming out in 1 turn
Have you ever considered Braid of Fire and Bogardan Hellkite together?
Braid is straight up broken and its mean. (obviously this is just a preference) OP as fuuu
Because free upkeep mana and flashing in dragons.
I know... op as fuck
BROTHER! I see you're aware that there's really only one creature type worth playing. Check out my version of this kind of deck - Tried and true, you'll have balefire dragon (or something equally as scary) very consistently turn two or three: http://www.mtgvault.com/searinox11/decks/dragon-deck-wins/
deck looks good. keep in mind you cannot geosurge into a seething song or another geosurge like you were saying in your how to play section. Geosurge mana can only be used for creature or artifact spells.
well other way round works just fine :P
Simian Spirit Guide sure is tasty in a deck like this! 2 Mountains and a Spirit Guide gets you a Turn 2 Dragonspeaker Shaman.
Or it gets you a turn 2 Seething Song.
Go all the way - run sandstone needle, dwarven ruins, and rite of flame - your chances of a turn two dragon just skyrocketed.
I used to have more ramp in this deck, i.e pyrectic ritual, arcane ritual but the deck ended up losing consistency mid to late game. This was especially prominent in multiplayer games which i do frequent with this deck :) thanks for all the suggestions though, keep em coming
