Deck Description

Budget version of the deck Abzan Aristocrats, a very fun and tier 2 deck in modern that recently put up some good results.

If you want to make it non-budget, first change the mana base to regular modern mana base. The second most important thing is to add 4x Voice of Resurgence, as they are awesome in this deck but a play set is $100.

You can also try 4x Collected Company. I haven't tried this personally but it seems like it could be quite good. It's a shame they go on the bottom of your library instead of your graveyard, though.

How to Play

The main combo of this deck is to sacrifice creature to either Viscera Seer or Cartel Aristocrat while having Blood Artist out, draining your opponent each time you do so. Reanimate creatures back with Return to the Ranks and/or Immortal Servitude.

Another combo/synergy is with Abzan Ascendancy, creating tokens every time you sacrifice so you have more cards to sacrifice. The +1/+1 counters can be relevant as well.

Another combo is with Tidehollow Sculler. When he enters the battlefield, his exile from opponents hand trigger gets put on the stack. If you sacrifice him in response to the trigger, his leaves play trigger goes on the stack on top of his ETB trigger. No card gets returned as his first ability is still on the stack. Once his leave play trigger resolves, you get to permanently exile a card from their hand as his leave play trigger has already resolved. It's like a super Thoughtseize that doesn't cost 2 life. Pretty dope, right?

Don't discount the occasional beatdowns this deck can give. The token from Doomed Traveler can get some points in when it's not chump blocking Delver, and all your creatures can grow from Abzan Ascendancy. It's not your main source of damage, but it can help close out a game.

In the sideboard the main two cards are Stain the Mind and Burrenton Forge-Tender. Stain the Mind gets rid of whatever you don't want to see and Forge-Tender is there for burn and any other red-based decks.
