Deck Description

This is based on laservader2 deck:
https://www.mtgvault.com/laservader2/decks/i-love-surgical-extraction/

Get rid of Apostles and win with Thassa's Oracle or Laboratory Maniac.

Methods to put Shadownborn to graveyard for exiling:
- Chromatic -> Apostle -> block attacker / sac to Drowned Rusalka
- Drowned Rusalka -> self sac to discard Apostle
- Thought Scour self mill hopefuly hitting an Apostle

Any extra Surgical Extractions / Extirpates can be used on opponent. Use Thought Scour to mill out some candidates.

Win conditions are protected with Pact of Negation. You aren't supposed to get to next upkeep. Note that to win with Laboratory Maniac, you most likely need to draw the turn you play it to end the game there. (4 mana)

Deck discussion for Apostle Deep Dive

This is a smart idea, although [[persistant petitioner]] might be better

It might. However, I wanted to keep the initial cmcs really low, so I can manage with such stunted mana base. (you can manage with 1 mana). Reason being it helps getting useful draws once Apostles are eliminated.

Still could try making a version with Petitioners.

You need at least 2 mana to win, but I see why you have apostles

True, but only as the finishing move. Oracle or Maniac should only be cast when they win the game, by which time I will have drawn most of the 11 lands.

Tried with Petitioners in another deck: https://www.mtgvault.com/dankirk/decks/petitioner-deep-dive/
The primary plan there was not to hard cast the petitioners (altough possible), but use other 1cmc cards to get them to graveyard. Careful Study is really good at that, but also not modern legal.

For hard casting petitioners I would need a bigger land base, but at the same time I can't afford to exile apostles/petitioners only to draw 4 lands the following turns.

That's fair I just thought they might work as they further your goal
