I have been playing different versions of this deck since she was released in the pre-con Commander decks; all with a mass land destruction package. The first decks were loaded with demons, dragons, and angels. Then the shift was on lots of creatures with ETB effects. In the past few months, the focus has been on quality ETB creature effects or effects that contribute to the board state, with lots of tutor, point & mass removal, and wheel effects.
You do not need Kaalia to win. Usually, I attempt to ramp to the 4 mana needed to cast Kaalia. If she sticks, I cast Armegeddon the turn after. However, if that has been rendered impossible, I continue my artifact ramp and control the board with mass/spot removal. The creatures in this deck are of high enough quality (albeit on a slower clock) they can win the game for you. I have won with a kicked Desolation Angel. My favorite scenario is dropping in a Dragon Mage with Kaalia, after I cast Armageddon.
