The entire idea of the deck is to extort to keep yourself from dying and to kill your opponent through that. If for some reason Extortion won't be enough, archangel of Thune will pump your creatures everytime you gain life.I am unsure of what to fill in with. The 5 artifacts are just initial ideas that I am not satisfied with. I would love some input on how to improve this deck.I like it as it is a low risk way to kill your opponent as you don't need to attack.I am thinking some type of control is needed whether its pacisifism, doom blade or something else.

Why use all these silly creatures if you have Pontiff of Blight? And you shouldn't, i mean, you SHOULDN'T run Staff of the Death Magus
Permalink
The extra silly creatures then would have two instances of extort. So you can trigger extort twice off the same creature. The Staff of the Death Magus was what I was considering to pair with Archangel of Thune. To pump creatures if need be.
oh, okay. ^^But why the staff if extort already triggers the archangel?
In case I am tapped for mana when I cast the spell. Each instance of extort requires you to pay one mana for it to happen.
Oh, i see... And what about vizkopa Guildmage?
I never even thought of the vizkopa guildmage! That is a perfect addition to this.
Sanguine Bond?
I like it, double dip on the extort damage.
I made a version, but I used the whip over sanguine bond.http://www.mtgvault.com/dharr16/decks/extort
20 land and a mana curve that extends into 4,5 & 6 , less than 8 1 drops and you expect to extort every spell? Good luck.
That is one of my major concerns with the deck is not having enough mana to run the extorts. That was one of my thoughts on why I didn't consider sanguine bond orignially and had forgotten that. What other changes would you make to make it more playable. Keep in mind one of the 4 drops increases mana generated from swamps.
Looking much more balanced. How does it play?
Why aren't there more instant/sorcery cards in this deck?
Honestly, I am out of practice and not quite sure which ones to include and which creatures to trim out. This is essentially the deck I would like to try out for a while as I get back into magic. So I designed the deck around using one specific mechanics and then tweek it from there. If you or others have knowledge to share to spare me some pain and time in the reworking process I would greatly appreciate it. Much as I already greatly appreciate the advice given.
After going through the recommendations and critiques of this deck I reworked it into a new form:http://www.mtgvault.com/dainir/decks/t2-ramped-extortion/This deck ramps mana much quicker to be able to fuel your extortions. There were many more 1 cmc spells added to further extort and protect your beasties.
I love this deck. I don't know why it took somebody so long to mix the archangel and extort together. A bit ashamed of myself for not seeing it. Good job!
I like this deck. That being said, id cut out basilica guards in favor of high priest of penance, id take out one basilica screecher for one more tithe drinker because he is going to be one of your main players once archangel gets out. With all the black in here, I'm tempted to suggest a full playset of gray merchant of asphodel. Lets face it, he is the king of extort, or maybe that is the obzedat. Whatever. You should also put two bile blights against tokens and weenie decks, three ultimate price since there are a lot of mono devotion decks these days and two revoke existences to take care of gods. Also, instead of the four doom blades, you should take out two of them and add two hero's downfalls for planeswalker hate. With the staves in the sb, which is a great idea in my opinion, you have one slot left. Check out lilianna of the dark realms. More mana ramp in black is awesome. Man, if this was modern, id say vampire nighthawk all the way! Keep in mind that this is just my opinion. I am no expert. +1 from me. Also, when you get a moment, you should check out my black white deck. It isn't extort like yours. It is meant to destroy everything while pinging away at life with obzy or tearing it apart with blood baron. http://www.mtgvault.com/mordial33/decks/merciless-hatred/
+1 for Priest of Penance in lieu of Basilica Guards.
as for more control... the new card "oppressive rays" (1 drop W).. and banishing light (2W). cheap and effective. with blind obidience on the field, you'll still be able to extort without tapping out.
the new white and black god should make a nice improvement http://www.mtgvault.com/card/athreos-god-of-passage/JOU/
Especially with the high priest of penance... you block with priest, he dies, so you get to destroy a nonland permanent and your opponent either loses 3 life you cast him again next turn...God of passage is the perfect card for this deck.
I really like this deck :D this is similar to a Deck I have, the use of extort and Thune is tenuous :) but my main concern is that one of the most popular colours atm is black and the majority of decks play Eribos which completely shuts this deck down (i have found this with mine) so I would strongly suggested getting your hands on some diecides to rectify this :) have you thought about adding bloodbaron in aswell .
Oops I mean it's genius not tenuous :/
now u need some kill/exile spells hero's downfall would be good and u need something that can exile in case u do run into an erebos. thoughtsieze might be a good idea as well
thought seize is good, but pricey. run the new creature "Brain Maggot". does the same, but for 1 mana more you have a blocker. With Athreos down, you can either do it again OR they take 3 life.
As soon as brain maggot dies, their card returns to their hand. So, I am not so sure it makes for a great blocker. Now, with Athreos down, it is helpful. But it doesn't remove the card like thoughtseize does.
it's more than enough to slow down aggro, which a lot of people are gonna run. if the maggot DOES die, they take 3 as opposed to you taking 2. with all the extort on the field and the priest of penance, it's gonna force a simple aggro deck to think, instead of just swinging balls out. it can't be doom-bladed. if it gets returned to a hand, it doesn't "die", so the card remains exiled (judge ruling?) once athreos is a creature, block w that or the priest to blow up their shit.
