Deck Description

This deck is a flavorful deck! (FTW!!) It includes one of the underlying story lines of the Theros block.

The main characters are:
Daxos: First person Elspeth met when she planeswalked to Theros. He is an Oracle of heliod.
Elspeth: My favorite planeswalker. She is an ex-phyrexian prisoner. She went to Theros after the hullabaloo on Mirridon.
Heliod: White god of Theros, god of the sun.
Erebos: Black god of Theros, god of the underworld.

When Elspeth first planeswalked to Theros, she met Daxos after taking heliod's sword when it fell from the heavens with a battle of him vs Purphoros. Acquiring the attention of heliod, and Daxos in return, she fled.

Some time later, she found her way into a temple of heliod, and he tried to kill her, but she countered, with the awe of the God remaining. He devised a plan to have her take down Polukranos. She eventually did, but with the help of Daxos. This installed herself into a permanent place into Heliod's main temple.

(quotes from the wiki)
"Months passed as she learned what the priests of Heliod had to teach, but mostly she found she enjoyed the time spent with Daxos the most. They grew closer, but he seemed reluctant to answer her questions as she wanted him to. He pushed her away, using Heliod's dogma to keep her from learning too much. At last, they had an argument which seemed to drive a wedge between them, but Daxos apologized and asked her to travel with him. Together, they rode to the place they had met."

They went to Meletis. Here, elspeth was told that there was a satyr who was demanding to speak to her, xenagos was this satyr. He was chained up in prison and telling her that he could obliterate the army without ever battling. " They would raise the river that ran through Akros and sweep the army away, but for it to succeed Cymede and Daxos would have to raise the river while the invaders were distracted. When King Anax heard this plan, he knew the perfect distraction and challenged the horde's leader to a duel, naming Elspeth as his second. The plan worked and Akros stood."

The king of akros celebrated this. After the party, Daxos and Elspeth were left alone in their tent, and their feelings were realized for each other, (If you know what I mean). But it was not to be.Xenagos appeared as they slept, thrilled with how well she followed his plan. He controlled her and brought back her darkest memory, trapped with the Phyrexian Obliterator, striking out and killing it... only realizing too late that she had just killed Daxos. The day after Xenagos ascended to nyx, became a god, plausibly after his plan worked and the gods like it and they ascended him. Xenagos started to hunt elspeth and she was cast out because of danger of others.

While she was cast out, she found her friend and tutor, Ajani. The decided to kill xenagos, they would need to go to Nyx for a mission sent by a god, who would be Heliod. Erebos allowed them to enter to do this mission because of the criterion of a god’s mission. So, long story short, they killed xenagos by Elspeth’s hand and her newly blessed sword of Heliod's.. While they were there, Elspeth offered her life in place of Daxos’ life to erebos, so he could return to Theros. Erebos took this offer. “ Ajani insisted they could escape, the battle had taken its toll, and Nylea warned the pair that they must flee before Erebos or Heliod found them. They managed to reach Nykthos again before Heliod appeared and using her own weapon fatally wounded Elspeth.”

“Ajani took his dying friend back to Theros and prepared to fight the agents of Erebos that were coming to claim his friend, but Brimaz's warriors ambushed him, pulling him away for his own good as his friend died.”

“As her life ebbed, Elspeth prayed to the god that had killed her, asking for peace at last. However, on Theros, death is rarely the end of a traveler's journey. In the Underworld of Theros, most ordinary humans would be doomed to dwell in the eternal gray realm or to surrender their identities and become the Returned.”

To honor his friend, Ajani now wears the cloak of Elspeth. (Seen in the M15 version)

“Daxos was freed from the Underworld in a Cruel Bargain with Erebos. Now he is one of the Returned, traveling across Theros in an endless search for his beloved Elspeth Tirel — but she has taken his place in the realm of the dead.”

This is such a cool deck! I'm fairly new to MTG, but absolutely love Elspeth's story, and Daxos' journey as well. I've been working with the cards from the Theros: Beyond Death set to make an Elspeth/Daxos reunited story deck that still plays well. If you are still into MTG I'd love to hear any recommendations you may have. Thanks!
