I played this deck at a Classic Pauper event on Gatherling.com and won the event going 11-1. Classic Pauper is the Classic format where only Commons are legal. Gatherling.com is a Player Run Event (PRE) site that uses Magic: The Gathering Online (MTGO) to play the matches. So anyone anywhere in the world can play in these events as long as you have an MTGO account. You can download Wizard's MTGO software and get an account by going here:www.mtgonline.comThis was a league style event where each player is allowed to play each other player once. You get 3 points for a win and -1 points for a loss. For this event, because of the large attendance, the Top 8 players in points then went to a single elimination bracket to decide the winner. Here is the Event's Metagame:http://www.gatherling.com/eventreport.php?event=PK%20Classic%201.07Here is the Deck Page which show the players and decks I faced:http://www.gatherling.com/deck.php?mode=view&id=1213If you want to get a good look at the current MTGO Pauper Daily Meta, here is a link to a bot I created that automatically compiles all the deck lists and analyses the decks that go 4-0 or 3-1:http://pauperkrew.com/phpbb/averages.php
This is an aggro-combo deck. Your ideal kill card is either Kiln Fiend or Wee Dragonauts. Although Delver of Secrets is pretty deadly as well if left unchecked. Basically you save up for a large massive attack on one turn to finish the game. Artful Dodge is used to make Kiln Fiend or Wee Dragonauts unblockable allowing you a massive single turn strike. Use the draw to fetch more cards for even bigger strikes. Sideboard Card Explanations:Echoing Truth: Primarily this here to combat Storm decks. But I also side this in against decks that have strong creature control as a way to save my creatures. Hydroblast: This card has applications against many of the common Pauper decks. RDW, Goblins, and Izzet Post are the main match-ups I use this for. There is nothing better than being able to turn the tide against an Izzet Post deck by countering Rolling Thunder! You can also use this against Storm to counter their mana boosters and either limit or stop their combo. Pyroblast:I use this mostly against Mono-Blue Control (MUC) and the increasingly popular Tempo Delver decks that have been showing up. But it also has application against Izzet Post as well. If for no other reason than to counter their counters so you can get your kill cards in place or to clear a potential blocker. Another good use is against the new UR Storm decks as you can target their blue draw spells to try and disrupt the combo. Seismic Shudder: This card has a lot of applications in the current meta. Storm (Empty the Warrens), Stompy, Infect, Goblin, and Hexproof Aura decks. Against Aura decks this may be your only hope of beating them as once they hit their Armadillo Cloak they can usually put their life total out of range pretty quickly. Gorilla Shaman:Golrilla Shaman has only one use, killing Affinity Artifact Lands! If you get this in the early game you can pretty much shut them down completely. As affinity has very few ways of protecting themselves from it.
