Deck discussion for My Original Soldier deck

Elspeth would be nice. The Elspeth Tirel, not the one you already have on the sideboard :P
Destroys other permanents except tokens and land, is just too good to leave alone :P

Just a suggestion :P

the one in the sideboard may produce tokens at a much slower rate but the +3/+3 and flying ability is also a pretty valuable asset. it's about a half dozen one way and six the other

captain of the watch, Preeminent Captain and maybe catapult squad, instead of your javelineers... also maybe mobilization ? just some ideas...

http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=111187 <-- my soldier deck; currently scheduled for a make over...

took mobilization out because wasn't a very good aggro card. the only good thing was the vigilance. preeminemt captain tends to die when u attack with him, so i don't run him. Thinking about elspeth v. 2 a bit iffy about the mana cost

captain of the watch is also to expensive to be in a mainly aggro deck. same with cards like catapult master etc.

captain of the watch hits the board with preemenint captain... boosting the toughness, and power of your pree-capty...

the extra vigilance gives you some defence (maybe even only as a threat) when you have catapult squad out... you dont tap to attack, and can still tap to deal dmg to incomming attacks the next turn...

besides fetchlands maybe a look at Emeria, the sky ruin to get some of your creatures back from the Grave... though game should (hopefull) be over before you get the 3 mana...

but as you put it... all the cards i suggested might be to slow for this deck... wall of omens for some carddraw ?

hada freeblade and kazandu blademaster are some of the 2 best soldiers out there! you should check out my soldier deck its titles "Soldiers done right"er

agreed, they r good, but they might not be the best in a non allies deck. i think that this deck is better without them

i promise you that you will not be sorry if you put them in, hada freeblade is a hundred times better than elite vanguard. and to be honest the javeliers are kinda a waste of space in my opinion. you can fill those spots with whatever you want(you know my opinion^^)

i dont mean to be harsh but you post your deck here to be criticized and perfected and im just trying to help :) if you want any ideas take a look at my soldier deck "Soldiers done right"er

Well javaliniers r there to get of cards like those pesky wellwishers, and both hada freeblade and kazandu blademaster are better lategame cards and might not be best for aggro. i thank you for your advice. i also did a little playtesting with the two that u mentioned above, and they didn't seem to work out as well for me. I also looked at your deck, and i think that it is a solid build. Unfortunately, i also think that our playing styles are a bit different. while you seem to lean towards draggin the game out and finishing with 20 soldiers with first strike and vigilance, i lean more towards fast aggro attacks, which would not work for freeblade, or hada in my opinion. I appreciate you comments and suggestions, and i hope that you understand my point of view. sorry if im offending you in any way shaper or form.

you are not making much sense, you say you are going for an aggro build yet you put in the jav's for control.

let me explain why hada is100 times better than elite vanguard. first he has the same basic stats a 1/2 for cmc 1 so he is not any slower, second he atleast has potential to grow from other hada's you put into play while also getting all the soldier benefits from cards like field marshall. third he works great in combination with ranger of eos, you search for 2 of them and bam either that turn or the next you get a 2/3 and a 1/2 for cmc 2 thats the equivalent of a 3/5 for cmc 2!

for this deck to go from being good to great it needs cards that work great on their own but even better when in conjunction with the rest of the deck.

to be honest elite vanguards is one of my favorite cards but it just isnt as good as hada, the only reason i suggested dropping elite is because you seem pretty set on keeping the jav's for control otherwise i would suggest dropping them instead

After leaving this particular page for two years, and rereading my posts, I'm facepalming really hard. Reason I like vanguards is because of the more consistent damage I feel I can put out with them, but you're right, the hada freeblades are probably better. Javelins can also deal direct damage to a player, which could be that one damage that is needed to win. As a sidenote, the reason I ran them is because one of the people in my playgroup had an elf deck, and I used the javs to pick off his priests of titania to prevent him from getting tons of mana by turn three. Anyways, not sure if you're still active, but I still thank you greatly for the advice you've given.

i had them both, but i thought that bladehold is sorta late in the game, and by the time that i play nomads, i should have won. my conquerer's pledge is sorta a back up, and it garantees me 6 tokens, while nomads would be sorta worthless after a wrath of god. thanks for advice, ill comment on your deck

yea bladehold is only good if you have preeminent captain out:p then he comes turn 4 fer free and attacking so you actually hit them for 3+3+2+2=10dmg with one attack from preeminent captain. then you add that to whatever other creatures you have that are attacking and they all get plus 1 via battlecry, so it could actually be a hole heck of a lot of dmg, but you only run 2 preeminents so it would be worthless:p

I'd look into hada freeblade and kazandu blademaster...

hada enters for 1 mana as a 1/2, then is boosted by +1/+1 counters every time another hada or kazandu enters

kazandu enters for 2 mana as a 2/2 first strike vig, then is boosted by +1/+1 counters every time another hada or kazandu enters...

2 mana for a 2/2 first strike vig!!! jesus man... I don't see how that could be passed up...

Also, I'd look into "brave the elements."
1 white mana = pro chosen color for the turn, making all your pewpew creatures unblockable if they're playing a mono deck...

and have you looked into playing 1 or 2 ajani goldmane? +1/+1 counters and vig for 4 turns in a row on all creatures... that's always fun. :) 4 mana is rough, but it'll get you there if you empty your hand by turn 4 or 5, which you probably will have. ><

look at my soldier deck variant ant it has the two cards that you and buddy system mentioned. I will also look into brave the elements, but wondering wat i should get rid of. I need a few slots for ajani goldmane. looks like its time to make another soldier deck variant :P

Kazandu only enters as a 1/1 for 2 mana. sorry, i felt the need to correct you on that

0
Posted 23 February 2011 at 09:33

hada also enters as a 0/1

0
Posted 23 February 2011 at 09:53

no hada enters as a 1/2 because when he enters he receives the counter and kazandu is the same, he enters as a 2/2 because when HE or any other ally enters the battlefield he gets a counter

0
Posted 23 February 2011 at 09:55

Then why do they not just put kazandu as a 2/2 and have when another ally comes into play, put a +1/+1 counter on it and kazandu

0
Posted 24 February 2011 at 07:01

i dunno why they did as they did, but its done and they cant change it now! im assuming so that he isn't uber powerful because his counters can be removed by like a hexmage or something :)

take a look at my deck man http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=100726
also Cenn's Tactician is also a pain for your opponent

0
Posted 23 February 2011 at 06:56

what i have discovered, is that Cenn's tactitian isn't that good of a card in this deck because, it mainly helps stuff block, and in a fast soldier deck, blocking is an abomination. i do have Cenn's tactician in my Kithkin deck, because i didn't have another one drop.

Decent-looking deck. Although I am wondering, is there a specific reason for the Arid Mesa cards in the deck, when only one type of land is used to begin with?

0

its called deck thinning, it prevents me from repeatedly drawing lands or creatures, and thinnes my deck

0

really neat deck. Not sure if your going for format play, but if not try adding a land tax and flagstones for more deck thinning. Also a karakas would be awesome :)

really cool deck bro.
