Deck Description

...evil was the harvest I reaped.

How to Play

My take on a budget 93/94 deck.

We are utilizing the fascinatingly feral race of creatures known as thallids to grow a beautiful, dark, twisted mushroom garden.

I know FE isn't legal, I just love the flavah

The game plan:

We begin with the standard issue Thallid. Proud and mighty he has the ability to produce fungus beyond fungus. He is the model to which other creatures will be held.

For ramp we will be finding an abundance within the Hollow Trees. From them we find a stock of mana hidden beneath the deep delved earth. However, our main source of ramp will be derived from the Wild Growth which enchants our forests. This will ensure a natural and healthy system of biodiversity.

Once our seeds are sown, we must maintain the sanctity of our garden. Spore Flowers will calm our opponents destructive path, and our Spore Clouds will ease them into a prolonged slumber. Behind our spores, one expert botanist carries out his priest-like task. He is the mushroom maker, the giver of life. The Elvish Farmer himself, he, our lone sentient being, garauntees our longevity in this cruel bastard earth.

Now our crops are blooming and our loamy soil protected, now the ripened fruits of our wretched harvest may take corporeal form. Pendelhaven serves to turn our modest 1/1s into hulking 2/3s, requiring immediate answers. And every one of our ghastly minions serve to benefit from spells of Giant Growth.

Among our endless ranks dwell three unspeakable abominations, each more terrifying than the last. The first of our foul plot wields the name Thallid Devourer. He is the manifest compleation of the natural cycle of life and death, each whom he consumes serves only to increase his deadly power. Next on our wicked roster is the explosive force of Thorn Thallid. No one, no player, creature, no planeswalker is safe from his devastating throes. And last, our finisher, our most destructive of all, the turgid behemoth known as Feral Thallid. He is a writhing mass compromised of a single, slippery, pulsing muscle. He has no mind, no sentience, he cannot die. He is compelled towards one drone-like task: kill.

As if our unchallenged reign was not already assured, we have in our grasp three methods of acceleration. Fungal Blooms will speed our gardens rapid sporification. Gaea's Touch itself will mend the effects of deforestation, and in the Howling Mine we will descend through our tilled soil and emerge with even more possibilities to take root.

As a last resort, the carcasses of our new soft fallen beasts will fertilize the very Night Soil in which their bodies lie, thereby spawning life anew.

"Thallids could absorb energy from the forest itself. Even elves were at a disadvantage in fighting them. "
-Sarpadian Empires, vol. III

Deck discussion for Foul was the seed I'd sown...

Fallen empires is only restricted in some of the 93/94 formats, depending more or less on nationality.
Nicely writ, and I especially loved your phrase "next in our wicked rooster"
Made me feel rooty again.
