Look, we all get tired of seeing these Phenax defender builds. So I wanted to try a new approach to the God. Deception is his game, and the agents of Dimir are his best players. And their methods of deceit truly lurk in the shadows. Mill is not our main wincon here, but to kill through mill. Lazav is our unsung champion for the build. Coupled with Phenax and you are one devotion away from a deck destroyer. And milling/destruction only adds more power to Lazav. Shifting him into whatever ill-fated creature enters the graveyard from no matter where. Though Ashiok may exile, we are not looking for a ameans to aid our graveyard. But to provide even more nightmareS To assist in our battle. Desecration Demon applies more pressure for removal. And when it looks like he can't attack, just tap him main phase for 6 more milled. Duskmantle increases the threat of mill with his activated ability dealing damage directly to the opponent. Plus most of our milling comes without paying mana, so there should be no mana issues when paying it's cost. Especially since jace can mill 10 and potentially deal 10 damage. Nightveil helps with card advantage which we are lacking, plus offers insane devotion. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

WHAT! Yous has no defedoors!!! I agree I like the look of the build and I can't wait to see what comes of it. Proxy and playtest, lets do this! I will challenge with my Honey Badger deck I have been working on...I still think Far // Away would be strong here as well.

I would recommend breaking//entering or paranoid delusions instead of dimir charm, the first being straight up better mill, the second being better long game.also nightveil specters... respect sir
Thanks for the input! The reason I have Dimir Charm in the build is for the utility. The early removal is nice, but the deck stack is what really brings out its purpose. Since Scry is such a huge deal in standard, it's nice to get a sneak peak at what card they are deciding to keep on top of the deck. From there I can grasp what other cards they may have in hand, and then decide what i want them to have. Possibly giving them a dead draw. Going from a them a turn 1 thoughtseize to see what they are playing, then turn two charm to give them a bad card is definitely the tempo I want to start the game with
fair enough, a well thought out use if i do say so myself
Well done. Why isnt this front page?Ive been waiting for someone to take Phenax and run with him like youve gone and done here.
Thanks, man! I appreciate the kind words. A friend and I play tested this deck because we have the cards between us, and we like the results. We didn't have the SB ready, but we definitely saw the potential without it. It does however lack in card draw plus it needs a little more removal. So we are making changes to it to see if we can improve it's effectiveness. We are removing the guildmage and dropping a swamp to add 3 more forms of removal (probably doom blade). Also, Lazav is going to two because we were just seeing it way too often. What we will add just yet is uncertain
Well for card draw you have some options with those colors; Divination,Pilfered Plans, Read the Bones, Underworld Connections, Toil // Trouble, Erebos, Quicken, Inspiration, Opportunity. Obviously some of those aren't very good but Erebos's Devotion is easily reached with the creatures you are running, U.Connections is good, if you are looking just for spells Pilfered Plans and Read the Bones are probably what you may be looking for.
Hey our names are close :D I feel like you tried Clab and it was taken because of me :P
