Is EDH too expensive for you? Wanna play a fun deck that doesn't cost a fortune? Then allow me to introduce you to....Poor Man's EDH. For under $75 you can own a cool, powerful, and fun EDH deck that isn't too limited. Simic has always been a fun to build deck, and now, Poor Man's EDH takes a stab at it. The budget got pushed a bit due to a few key cards, but the deck turns out to be a fun little brew! It may push your wallet a bit more than some of our other decks, but it's worth it to bring this deck to your local EDH play spot. Enjoy!
Deep within the Simic Labs, a great scientist is studying, lost in thought. As you enter, he doesn't even notice you, and continues searching for whatever answers lies in the papers spread across his desk. All you need to do is show him the fang, and it steals his attention. You tell him he can find the fang's source and more if he just leads your team across the planes. With a new inspiration for the evolution of the Simic, Momir Vig joins your cause, and brings all of the Simic's best spells with him. The Simic have created some of the most supreme predators through the science of green and blue magic. Cards like Simic Sky Swallower and Trygon Predator terrorize the skies with unnatural power, but the simic know that raw power aren't enough to win the war. That's why the Simic utilize +1/+1 counters effectively amongst the group. With Graft (which brings the creature out with +1/+1 counters they can distribute when another creature enters the battlefield) and Evolve (which gives the single creature +1/+1 counters when something bigger appears) your Simic Scientists will be breeding perfection over the course of the game, at your own pace!
With these long term plans comes a bit of control required for the field. Glory hogs might get jealous at your perfectly growing masterpieces, which needs to be reacted to quickly. Counter magic such as Plasm Capture and Mystic Genesis are biomancer favorites, because they end foolish attempts to ruin your work and bring beneficial side effects as well. Other times, the field will just have to be cleaned up due to being overrun by troublemakers. Ætherize stops attacks by bouncing all attackers back to their owners and, and Wash Out takes permanents of a particular color back to hands as well, perfect for those moments when your work just needs a fresh start.
Momir Vig brings an interesting new vision to the game when he appears. Whenever you play a green creature, he fetches a creature out of your deck to the top of your library, and when you play a blue creature, if the top card of your library is a creature, you add it to your hand! The best part is that most of your creatures are both colors, meaning you basically pull a creature out of your deck every time you play one! Another card that adds to your advantage is Fable of Wolf and Owl, which gives you a 2/2 wolf when you play a green spell and a 1/1 flying owl every time you play a blue spell! With the Fable being able to add when you play a spell of either color, it certainly comes in handy when you need a better board presence quick! Just remember, the Simic's grand vision needs time, so staying alive is key to victory! Your big creatures might be enough to stall, and your control spells might help, but remember to stay on people good side! Just because Momir Vig and the rest of the biomancers may be socially awkward doesn't mean you have to be! Ally yourself with someone else with long term goals, because 9 times out of 10, your goals will make bigger payoffs than theirs! Just keep the science going by evolving and grafting and in no time, you and Momir Vig will be smiling as you watch your genetic masterpieces trample the way to the next area in need of research!
