For under $75 you can own a cool, powerful, and fun EDH deck that isn't too limited. The popular legend from 2013 gets a special budget deck due to a bit of demand from my local shop! So, for a few friends that wanna terrorize some other shops nearby, I made Nekusar and his deck from hell! Enjoy!
(SLIGHT UPDATE) Added Thought Vessel to help strengthen the deck!
Spellbook -> Thought Vessel
Lich King Nekusar has reigned over Grixis in secrecy for a very long time (so long in fact his reign goes beyond record) as the Mindrazer. No one has challenged him due to fear of his mind killing power, and with rumor of some other King trying to rule the Planes, Nekusar has commanded you to lead his forces on a march to not only end this Spirit's false rule, but to claim all the planes under his banner! Nekusar is a powerful lich with a the power to rip the life out of enemies by ripping out all memory and thought. Many corpses lay outside his necropolis clutching their heads in their last moments as a omen, and it's the sole reason Nekusar can spread so much fear across so much territory. Nekusar causes all players to draw an extra card up draw step, and when your opponents draw, they lose life for each card! With this terrifying power, Nekusar kills his foes in a slow but fearsome way, which most players don't come prepared to deal with! Either their life will run out...or there deck will!
Nekusar doesn't just kill enemies one card at a time however. He's packed his deck with all sorts of draw spells for everyone to suffer by! Most of the cards in your deck will either draw or discard hands to keep you in control of everyone by bogging up their options or just taking all of them away. Cards like Reforge the Soul and Molten Psyche pull double duty, discarding hands and forcing a redraw of hands, and when combined with Megrim and Liliana's Caress, you get even more mind destroying damage each turn! To make matters worse, Havoc Festival and Sulfuric Vortex take away the ability to gain life and deal damage each turn, quickly turning all of your opponents hopes into a bloody waterfall of dead memories. If that wasn't enough, Nekusar has called on Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded to help agonize everyone in the way. Tibalt can draw you another card, (for a random discard of course) or deal damage to a player for each card in their hand, or steal all creatures for a turn! With all these life wrecking spells, it's no wonder Nekusar is the Lich King!
Your creatures are few, but Nekusar prefers it that way. Why have a large army when a few powerful figures are enough? Your best creatures get bigger by hand size, and with Nekusar's draw power, this is like having your cake and eating it! Sturmgeist is a flier that picks up a card when he deals combat damage and Psychosis Crawler forces life loss on opponents whenever you draw a card, making every turn a painful step closer to endgame! The eldest of these beings, however, are two ancient spirits from Kamigawa: Adamaro and Kagemaro. Both grow with hand size, but Adamaro gets bigger with your opponents hands, while Kagemaro gets bigger with your hand and can wipe the board with a simple sacrifice. These creature should constantly be huge, because they are your first and last offense and defense. These mighty creatures can be the difference between life and death, so make sure to keep them alive at all costs! If you find yourself close to decking out, however, you have a backup plan in Laboratory Maniac. If you draw out your deck with him out, instead of losing, you win! Nekusar's cold grip is a strong one, and soon all of the multiverse will bow to it...and you!!
