I wanted a deck that could get a lot of creatures out and cards that would benefit from that. My friends all play multicolor decks of black/blue, red/green/black, blue/red, so I wanted to do something simpler and let them out-complicate themselves.Also, I try not to spend a lot of money, which kept cards like Champion of the Parish and Honor of the Pure out of my deck. I find I'm vulnerable to direct damage, flying, and board wipes, but my instants/enchantments do an OK job of protecting me from anyone who just dabbles in that sort of thing.
I try to get Mentor of the Meek, Thraben Doomsayer, and Cathars' Crusade out as quickly as possible, so that they can benefit from all the creatures that come into play. I use the instants and enchantments to survive until turn 5+ when I really get going, and by the 6th or 7th turn I should have a ton of tokens out that get stronger every turn.

Timely Reinforcements would be a good life gain card, and so would war report. I extremely recommend Cloud Shift, use it to blink Captain of the Watch so you can use here token gen ability more than once.
