Deck Description

My dream deck! I hope to buy into competitive legacy at some point, and I love playing games that are long and grindy, so I hear this fits that bill pretty well.

D&T players out there, I'd really like your input on how to really get the most mileage out of this deck. What are the best/worst matchups? I don't know the legacy metagame very well.

Also, this build is stock for the most part. I figured there isn't much room for brewing with D&T. Seems like the deck is a well-oiled machine, and there isn't much use messing with it.

How to Play

I'm pretty sure ideally turn 1 rishadan port or wasteland followed by an aether vial, turn two thalia or revoker, and then just chip away at your opponent while denying them mana and turns with port and wasteland? Recruiter of the guard can also be helpful I am told by being able to fetch for certain creatures that could help depending on the matchup (i.e mirran crusader vs. Grixis, BUG, Delver, Elves, etc.).

For anyone who has experience playing D&T, please leave tips and strategies in the comments! Thanks.

Deck discussion for Legacy Death & Taxes

Blade splicer and wasteland strangler are mvps in long matchups. A repeatable 3/3 first strike for 3 is back breaking to all but the best prison decks. Phyrexian revoker doesn't usually see maindeck play just because you never know what to name in game one. Mother of runes will be obsolete because you can just flicker any creatures being targeted by removal. Strangler is also a good sink when you cant find colored mana sources.

I've seen blade splicer in modern D&T but not in legacy D&T builds. I know it has a lot of synergy with flickerwisp, but for 3 mana I think Recruiter of the Guard is just better in that you can tutor up a stoneforge mystic, Spirit of the Labyrinth, Thalia, Sanctum Prelate, or Miran Crusader based on the matchup. I feel like the real MVP is Brightling. That card is just nuts for what it does. Its the kind of card that will just steal games away I think. In legacy, you usually get a good idea what your opponent is on by turn 2-3, so Phyrexian Revoker I don't think is a dead card mainboard. Also, being familiar with the metagame and knowing what Phyrexian Revoker can and cannot target is key I think. Many legacy decks go all in on one win-con like Sneak Attack or Lion's Eye Diamond (both targets for Revoker). Legacy I feel is more predictable than modern or standard because of the high cost to entry and powerful cards. I've found if you bring a brew deck to a legacy event most people will mop the floor with you. It's happened to me I assure you. As for mother of runes, she's a 1 mana 1/1 that gives creatures protection so I wouldn't underestimate her. She's far from broken and easily removable, but a good turn 1 play if you don't have a vial in your starting hand. Sorry for ranting lol.

Hey, sounds good to me. I just spent from second hand, never having played legacy. I would also like to admire the interaction between wisp and revoker. If revoker isn't set on the right card, just flick it and name something else. Overall though, I think you know what you're doing and I really like the deck. Maybe you could take a look at the mono black burn brew that i marked as unloved. Would love some feedback from you, thanks!

Also, don't underestimate the karakas-thalia-vial interaction. You get to block, karakas it back to your hand and vial it back in.
Also you can vial in Thalia in response to miracle triggers if they don't respect your mana denial suite.

All the fair match ups are fun and reward pilot competency. Combo is your worst match up as it just boils down to whether or not you can get Thalia into play before they combo.

Yeah you're right. I've been turn 2'd before by ad nauseam tendrils storm. They just had the nut hand and went off before I could do anything. I was playing burn and Eidolon was the only card that could've saved me. The banning of gitaxian probe hurt the deck slightly, just because it helped them avoid walking right into a force of will. Thankfully though Thalia, Ethersworn Canonist and Sanctum Prelate can wreck their whole strategy, but like you said only if you can get them out in time lol.
