[EDH] Animar, Combaggro

by Carnadine on 08 January 2014

Main Deck (99 cards)

Sideboard (1 card)

Creatures (1)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

How to Play

Your first action is to mulligan until you have enough mana to cast Animar turn 3. Protect him (he just has protection against 2 colors after all !) if you can : boots, shieldmate, ascetism...
Then, cast little creatures to give +1/+1 counter to your precious general and play bigger creatures for a few colored mana.
With Mage of Future, Garruk's horde and Oracle of Muldaya, you play with the top of your library allowing you to play many cards. Draw more when you play cards with Soul of Harvest and Primordial Sage.
You will overhelm your opponent(s) quickly and will try to cast a mass removal like Wrath of God. At this time, you MUST have Spearbreaker Behemoth to survive.

If you manage to cast Primal Surge, you win 99% of the time. There is only 2 non-permanent spell. So you may cast your whole deck in one time. Your creatures get double strike, trample and haste. Who can stop you ?

TL;DR

1) Play Animar
2) Make Animar big enough
3) Put your deck on the battlefield and win.

Deck discussion for [EDH] Animar, Combaggro

With this many big creatures Triumph of Ferocity is probably going to draw you a card each turn.

Guild Feud isn't cheap to have in play, but it'll probably get you a creature each turn since they'll win the fights given their size.

Thanks for your suggestions. However, I think I have enough draw to overwhelm anything. Plus, only one card at my upkeep isn't that strong.
I have considered Guild Feud, but it's expensive (not a creature), a little too random and could help my opponents. Gruul Ragebeast do pretty much the same, but only with what I want and it's a creature.

Auto-suggestion for the future : Vorel of the Hull Clade. Cheap, powerful, he can double the counters on ... ANIMAR ! And a couple of other creatures in the deck. In this deck Animar sould be always on the battlefield, so Vorel, will be always useful. A good boost of speed.
