Yes, this plus Exquisite Blood does indeed equal an instant loss for your opponent.

Instant loss so long as you gain life or they lose life. They still CAN beat you, but you'd have to be in a pretty bad place to lose with this combo out. Most the time people will just surrender if those two out unless they run heavy enchantment removal or know that they can just swing for game though.
