Deck Description

For anyone that might be new or learning, "Project X" was an archetype that allowed you to combo infinitely with the help of Saffi Eriksdotter and Crypt Champion. When Pod became a thing in modern, it was the main deck to go to, and overshadowed this deck for a long time. Now that Birthing Pod is banned, I decided to create a new list for the archetype, adding a few new interesting cards that Khans has recently released. There may be a change now and then, but this is the current list I am running.

How to Play

It is simple, try to get Saffi Eriksdotter and Crypt Champion on the battlefield with any "enters the battlefield" creature card. Before Crypt Champion's "pay mana" ability goes off, you stack the trigger and sacrifice Saffi, targeting Crypt Champion. When this happens, Crypt Champion comes back with his first ability triggering, in which you target Saffi. You can repeat this process Infinitely, allowing you to combo into infinite anything!

It has been doing pretty well. I have been able establish combos at reasonable turns and wish for answers based on whatever deck i was up against. I think this will be the current list to stick with.

Grim Haruspex may be worth trying out. Not sure how necessary the card draw is for this deck but I always love card advantage.

I am currently using him in this build, http://www.mtgvault.com/potch/decks/red-black-vampire-bat/.

I like the deck though +1 from me.

It does seem like a good idea, but this kind of play style doesn't really need the card draw because there are various ways to get the specific card you need to combo, rather than relying on multiple top decks. With the addition of Collected Company, it makes the chance to combo so much more likely than before.

So the purpose is being able to bring back creatures from your graveyard with this wombo combo, but is there any other engine other than Teysa to get them in there?

That is not quite the case. The only creatures that would be returning from the graveyard would be Saffi and Crypt Champion because they would create an infinite loop. Teysa can abuse this infinite loop by creating infinite 1/1 spirits every time Crypt Champion goes to the graveyard when you do not pay the red mana. Teysa isnt really there to put creatures in the graveyard, she is there as a finisher. She is one of the best cards to go together with this combo, along with Sek'Kuar, Blood Artist, Bitter Ordeal and Essence Warden. Each of those cards play the same role as Teysa, they are there as a finisher.

Ah, ok. I was reading the list differently I suppose.

Generally when people see Teysa, the first thing that comes up is "tokens" mainly in a black/ white deck with lingering souls and the sort. To be fair, this old deck style does have the token making option, but its used in a different way.
