Deck discussion for milly control for Standard

I'm not sure if I'm safe to assume this, but this is meant to be a deck played in the format of Standard...correct?

If not I'll have some suggestions.

First, while its not mandatory the average 60 card deck should contain 24 (40%) land. Didn't know if you did that on purpose or not. I think Increasing Confusion is the best mill card there is. I would sideboard Erase. Replace Negate with Mana Leak or Vapor Snag.
So -3 Swiftfoot -4 Hatchlings -1 Erase -2 Negate -2 Spirit Mantle + 3 Land + 3 Mana Leak or Vapor Snag +3 Increasing Confusion +2 Sands of Delirium. If you're willing do any sort of mana ramp, increasing confusion and sands of delirium get really nasty. Also, take a look at Divine Deflection.

I went through the whole process of registering just so I could ask this question: Do people really put 24 lands in their deck? I have never built, nor come across a deck, that has had 24 lands unless they were specifically building around it.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, I really am curious. I haven't played constructed in years, so I'm not sure what people are doing outside of limited. I just know that in my casual decks, 20 is the limit for me, and sometimes even that feels like too much.

I'm only new but the jist that i have come across is that it depends on the type of deck.I looked into this last night and people say a control deck can work better with more lands than say other types of decks.Again i'm new to magic so im taking the advice of anyone generous enough to spend time helping me :) . I also realize as moosemoose said its not manditory. When i can get the cards recommended i will play test and see how it plays.I wasn't having to much trouble with mana before other than decks i would battle generally got me killed before i could mill them.I would often get them to about say 10 cards left in there deck and they would kill me.

Understandable. Just remember that for every mana you draw after you have enough to maintain board control is a wasted draw. There are blue cards that will help you draw cards while allowing you to pitch unwanted lands. Since you're just starting out, I suggest to get in some serious playtesting, even if it's solitaire. You don't even have to play against anything, just shuffle your deck and draw like you would in a game. Get a feel for the deck, know what to expect every time you draw a card. Not getting enough of one card? Add more (4 card max). Another card getting in the way or feel like a dead spell? Drop it and add something new.

Good luck at FNM!
