Jori En is an extremely powerful commander, as she, unlike most other Izzet commanders (or other commanders in general) usually enter play with a target on their head. Jori En is innocuous, unassuming, but very relevant, especially in a fun-police deck. She tends to sit around as a one-sided Howling Mine with a butt large enough to block early-game pests. Jori En affords you the ability to grow your mana and hold a full clutch of cards while you remain vigilant for threats to your well-being. The deck cashes in on a few cards that create two "casts" off of one card like Torrential Gearhulk and Talent of the Telepath but I've learned to steer clear of many cards like this as they are traps in my opinion (Mindclaw Shaman, Spellweaver Volute, etc.). Jori En's card draw will come easily and naturally as I've learned over the years. I've been running Jori for 3 years now and am well over .500 in terms of win-rate. This is a finely tuned deck that won't make you any friends but you should know that going in with a control deck ;) It's important to mention that all of my local play groups still play with the Partial Paris mulligan. If you use the conventional mulligan rules in your area, I would add 2 more lands. You don't want to miss land drops in control.
It's control! In the early game, you will smooth out your draws and place a few mana rocks. I always stick Jori En at my earliest opportunity and then settle into observation mode. Let someone else put a target on their head and counter/remove any unwanted attention that comes your way. Your goal is to keep the game running long so you can build out to 10-12 mana and start unleashing your haymakers. Consecrated Sphinx, Insurrection, Thousand-Year Storm, Rite of Replication, Time Stretch(es), and Mizzix's Mastery will all close the door if resolved. My wish list is a Volcanic Island and maybe Mana Crypt (the deck is very dependent on colored mana). I'd also like to try a Recurring Insight. Cards that have been cut include Niv Mizzet, Nin, Mindclaw Shaman, Spellweaver Volute, Fall of the Titans, JTMS, Goblin Electromancer, and many more. Expropriate exiles itself or I'd be running that as well.I'd love to answer any questions and/or hear your thoughts.-Brom
