Deck discussion for Rakdos Riot

This deck is pretty good, are you hoping to keep it with Standard or you don't completely care?

I want to keep it standard

And I suspect you won't be blocking much if your unleashing alot? Right lol?

I dont believe in blocking.

Alright, here is some cards I did a little looking into. Carnage Gladiator, if you are not blocking, might as well let your opponent feel some pain for blocking.
Instead of Ultamate Price, it would be better putting in 2 Dreadbores, it can kill any creature, and even planeswalkers, which can be game changing at times.
Rakdos Shred-Freak, it may not have Unleash, but a 2/2 for 2 red or black mana with haste is always nice in an aggressive deck. Or you can go with Spike Jester, it's same mana cost but a 3/1.

I dabbled with Shredfreak and Spike Jester. I ended up replacing them both with Legion Loyalist. I'll try to see if I can make room for Carnage Gladiator.

Id like to add in the 2 dreadbores but it would unbalance the red/black mana distribution in the deck. Also its a sorcery instead of an instance. It also has a very strict mana cost of 1black/1red. Overall ultimate price is a bit more flexible even though its target is a bit more specific. I'd like to fit in Dreadbore but I'd be losing an instant removal.

This ALMOST seems like my deck with some slight alterations.......
bloodinmykhorneflakes, have you been on MY Rakdos deck before?

I remember u told me to replace my deviant glees with madcap skills. So I tried to balance your suggestion out while keeping the cheap deviant glees in my deck. But besides that, I guess great minds think alike. :)

It's now starting to look different but I like the way you think there....
+1 rep for the "great minds" reference!

Beware the increasing CMC though

Converted Mana Cost!
Look at the Deck at a Glance section, the Mana Curve describes how your deck is going to cost you in mana. It even has the count of cards with the CMCs of all amounts used
At the moment, you Mana Curve is looking pretty good for Rakdos, but maybe a bit slow

turn 5 or 6, I can get rakdos out, and all my creatures are basically 1-2 mana. This deck could potentially have 20ish monster cards for 1 mana.

traded a thrill-kill and a gore-house for 2 carnage gladiators. Lost some early game but I think this gives the deck some more options later on.

would it be a good idea to get rid of the 2 rakdos's return for 2 havoc festivals?

0
Posted 02 September 2013 at 03:12

Havoc Festival is nice in this deck yes, but, I think a better choice would be Curse Of Bloodletting, if you don't mind it becoming not standard soon. It's a card I use in my own Rakdos deck and it has won me many games.

0

Mmm no sorry. But nice suggestion though. I think I'll go ahead and replace rakdos's return with havoc festival. Havoc festival combo'd with Rakdos himself basically means I can play him at any time and I can summon any creature for 2 or less mana.

Can I get more feedback on this?

Rakdos's Return vs Havoc Festival.

0
Posted 02 September 2013 at 04:31

Rakdos return, if you think about it, you'll do about... 4-6 damage in a quick game and discard the other players hand, which by then could only be 1-2 cards. Havoc Festival if played on your turn, will cut the opponants life in half on their turn, then once it's back to your own turn, you should be able to get the kill possibly.

So to sum it up, yes, Havoc Festival.

But its very hard to get out...At the very least its turn 7 I get it out. While Rakdos's return I can do a quick burn for 2 damage at turn 4 or 5 damage at turn 7 which could mean a win. This is a speed aggro deck of course.

Alright, I'm going to do some research, you want something that deals damage in particular or perhaps an Enchantment?

0

Five Alarm Fire is a fun damage dealing enchantment
There is also Curse of Bloodletting, or Curse of Stalked Prey

1

Alright, did a bit of looking, maybe these cards can help.
Awaken The Ancient, turns a mountain into a 7/7 with haste, could help get the win.
Sinister Possesion, Makes something lose life for attacks/blocks.
Showstopper, play it if you know you are about to lose alot of creatures to deal alot of damage.
And last card would be Skullcrack, pretty much an easy damage card, but it also stops life gain and prevention of damage for the turn.

Just to give a couple choices and ideas.

Awaken the Ancient doesn't have trample and witha 7/7 in Rakdos, I'd want it to
As for Showstopper and Skullcrack, they're great options

1
Posted 03 September 2013 at 00:36

Showstopper especially, if the other player has a field clearing card, play it and kill them with their own card pretty much.

0

I have more use for Skullcrack though

1
Posted 03 September 2013 at 00:45

It can find use in nearly any red deck, it's like a Searing Spear with extra kick.

0
Posted 03 September 2013 at 00:47

showstopper might be nice. This deck lacks anything to deal with boardsweepers or a boardsweeper of its own.

0

Most Rakdos decks do!
Take mine for example, all mine is based around is Attacking // Rarely Blocking
I unleash almost every creature that I have that has the ability. Then I just attack and TRY to annihilate my opponent

1
Posted 03 September 2013 at 01:55

Mines more like a Swiss Army knife version of a Rakdos deck, it has alot of aggression, but also a decent amount of controling aspects and things to mess with people.

0

Mines more about suicidal aggression.

0

For the Rakdos, "suicidal charge" and "good showmanship" are one and the same.

took out 1 rakdos's return for a Mizzium Mortars. Its going to be for boardsweeping.

im not sure if i should swap out 4 shocks for 4 muggings. I need more cards that stop the enemy player from blocking but at the same time I need decent burn spells.

You could have 2 shocks and 2 Muggings, have access to both.

swapped out the deviant glee for a doom blade.

which is better? doom blade or ultimate price?

0
Posted 08 September 2013 at 08:17

Doom blade kills everything but Black, and Ultimate Price kills anything Mono colored. You would probably be less limited with the Doom Blade, but perhaps having 2 of both can keep you a bit flexible with situations.

0

too unfocused. Doom blade sounds like the better choice. And anything it cant handle Dreadbore can.

0

That is true, and considering the Ravnica Block and Theros seems to have some powerful multi colored creatures, Doomblade would be useful.

im really torn because Id like to add Mizzium mortars into the main deck but Id upset the mana balance if I switched it out for anything besides the 4 shocks. If i switch out the shocks I lose 4 direct damage worth of spells.

Shock is useless in this deck.
Replaced them with Mizzium Mortars and upgrades the other 2 shocks with Skullcrack

actually I dropped 1 shock for 1 mizzium mortars for end-game potential.

dropped 2 thrilkills since exava isnt the centrepiece of this deck anymore and added in 2 spike jesters for haste.

Ive playtested this deck and Ive realized its too slow for what its supposed to be. Im making a new deck. This deck is dead. But I'll keep it so I can look back on it someday and see how to rework it when Im better at Magic.
