About a year ago I decided to build a discard deck. I loved the thought that I could win a game by making an opponent throw away all his cards - to me it seemed the ultimate dick move. I researched this website unrelentingly, knowing that having a discard deck makes you the prime target for a number of opponents. Eventually I stumbled across Merfolk, and was satisfied that their tribal buffs would give me the defense I needed to make the discard elements fly. After playing it (and loving it) for a year or so I found that although it did sometimes win by discard, it was the strong Merfolk creatures that usually ensured the win. Recently my friends and I pooled our money and bought a friend a Goblin deck for his birthday. The deck relies on sacking Gobbies and Goblin Sharpshooters to annihilate an opponents creatures and/or life points, and it works. Worse still, the presence of 4 Patriarch's Bidding completely render my discard elements useless. So, I thought It was time to revamp the old Merfolk. This time around I have included 4 Master of the Pearl Trident, furthering my decks buffing capabilities. 4 Aquitect's Will, to allow me to Islandwalk opponents when coupled with the Tridents. 2 Sygg, River Guides to hopefully protect me a little from the infamous Sharpshooters and 3 Wake Thrasher, because I can see them raping face (especially when I have a Merrow Commerce on the field). I've side-boarded my Memory Erosion and Traumatize, but have added 4 Tormod's Crypt so I could hypothetically use them against decks with Graveyard recovery. What do you peeps reckon about this build? Any and all advice on this deck, and/or my Gobbo dilemma would be appreciated. Stay magical.
