Deck discussion for Relentless Rats

its an ok idea but do some research. there r more cards needed to make the deck run way better.

just rats? really? I understand what you want to do with this deck, but you'll be stuck doing nothing but lands for the first 2 turns of any game.

imo there is one more key card for these decks... Door of Destinies. play it, call rat now any time u play a rat card the door gets a counter. the more counters on the door the bigger the rats>:D

AEther Vial is your friend :) Maybe a Green splash for Call of the Herd?

that would only slow the deck down. the goal is to dump the rats out and swarmp when ur ready.

I also suggest green splash, Bloodbond March is pure evil.

How about 4 Verdant Catacomb, some forest and Bloodbond March. If not the fetch-lands are still wonderful because they would thin out your lands amazingly well. I think there's also some other black green fetch-lands you could use if you want to use Bloodbond March.

Nice deck... But, 20 rats? I thought you were limited to 4 of any card unless limited then 1?

u would be correct on a normal card. but the relentless rats says a deck can have any number of them in it.=D

maybe take out a few lands, may just be me but I prefer having 4 mana max cards because its cheap but i love the idea here go with it

One more KEY card....Storm Crow, it will speed the deck up (because it costs 1), it will become a target for your opponents removal, and they'll likely name it when using cards like Memoricide, so you'll still be able to play the rats.

When you add those 5 Storm Crow, you should also try to use Mind Bend so you can change some of your rats into giants. They're a dangerous tribe, and when you get one your opponents gonna be saying, "HOLY FUCKING SHIT, I'M FUCKING SCREWED" and rage quit. You'll win every game everrrr.

I couldn't agree more, Storm Crow would be this deck's major key, a misguidance. It's also a potential flyer, which means you'll be smashing your opponent for 1 each turn!

Also, you might want to check Hexplate Golem, As soon as you have that CMC, you'll get a phenomenal 5/7 without any annoying abilities, for only 7 mana!

i think some of the suggestions here dont see the point behind the deck. its strickly a mono black rat pack deck. no other creatures r needed no other colors or spells. man look how pop a few tips here and there have made ya, propz..

Marrow-Gnawer and Door of Destinies arnt necessary in here. they are taking up valuable spots. the rats pump themselves up, doors is just redundant. gnawers abil isnt necessary at all. what you need is some discard in here to play turn 1 to make sure the opponent cant memoricide you or get too big a head start. you really only need 21 lands or so. that frees up a bunch of spots. fill em with 4 thoughtseize, 4 duress

I agree with dknight27. You really don't need Marrow-Gnawer or doors. You should have 23 or 24 rats instead. Once you use Thrumming Stone your rats are going to be so strong they wont need any other buff. I suggest adding Liliana Vess to this deck. It allows you to heckle with your opponent with discard, or search for a thrumming stone, or if your rats get Day of Judgemented or Wrath'd then She can also bring them all back. Shes perfect for this deck.

Also, I forgot to add. Another good thing to add to this deck in place of doors/marrow gnawer is actually Memoricide or Sadistic Sacrament. It seems silly but you can use it to Memoricide a Memoricide and take out their ability to get rid of your entire deck basically.

I agree with throwing a few Memoricide in there, at least definitely the sideboard. If someone uses one against you, your whole strategy is completely moot. In any case, sideboarding it will allow you to come back for a chance at a 2nd game victory if they beat you with a good combo the first time around.

All in all, this deck seems like a lot of fun to play with! I always thought it would be interesting to actually utilize the relentless rats

A good idea, seen it before. My friend plays an EDH deck with Relentless Rats and Thrummingstone.
The thrummingstone is obviously insanely good, but the fact that this deck has nothing else in it means you will either be stuck playing lands every turn, or just playing rats one by one until you pull it.

You're going to need some kind of control to slow down your opponent, especially against a deck with Memoricide + Extirpate + Surgical Extraction.

I like the idea, but if you're going to actually pull it off, I think you need something more than just the rats. I'll see if my friend has any suggestions.

what about the card mortal combat? that way when your rats get pulsed they still hurt your opponent?

You should take out some of the Thrumming Stones, no point for that many, you can only have one in play anyway.

When New Phyrexia comes out, Surgical Extraction will rip this deck apart.

imp's mishchief for redirecting the extraction or other cards that do the same thing, as well as putting in surgical extraction itself. Keep the thrumming stones. its the only way of playing your whole army closer to the beginning. As for the day of judgement factor and other board wipes, there is an answer if your combo has come out. First include Viscera Seer, a highly underrated card for a common. once all your rats are out, in response to any board wipe, u can sacrifice all of your rats yourself to scry for the exact card you need LIVING DEATH! your beloved rats will all be back the following turn for more mishchief. OR... If you just want to end the game right then, also ending the fun with your rats however, you can include the mortal combats. scry for it, and you'll win within 2 turns anyway. also include sign in blood, and all the fetch lands that search for swamps (thinning the deck to get to what you need, best option). And for the last kicker of the deck, mainly just to really speed it up for ya, include divining tops. when you sacrafice all of your creatures in response to a board wipe effect to scry, you can tap diving top (another highly underrated card) to draw the card you scryed for right away, without mana. This would be the best case scenario for the countering of the extraction effect cards with imp's mischief (tap divining top to draw the imp's mischief and instantly counter the extraction effect) I've been thinking about the defects of the relentless rats deck (lets face it, the idea's already widely used) and how to help defend its defects while keeping it's ferrocity. With the Diabolic tutors (forgot to say this one), the viscera seers, and imp's mischief, the divining top, the living death, the fetch lands, and the mortal combat, the deck can still remain mainly solid and do its original job more often than not, having some answers to other people's answers...Anyway, there ya go.

Look at this, this would be how you should run a rat deck and it work in the same sense of what you are trying to do:

Although this "works", you're pretty fragile. Memoricide, Extirpate, Sadistic Sacrament, Extract, Surgical Extraction, Wrath of God, Martial Coup, Day of Judgment, etc. All of these cards will result in a loss

while its true these days there is a ton of removal for decks like this but u should know that every deck has a weakness, and can be beat in many ways. there can be a giant arguement about how to protect the deck better from these cards and what not but its a waste of time. the diff styles and weaknesses of decks allow us to have mtg be so popular and challenging. with that said its still a fun deck no matter how u see it. =D

Im not sure if anyone talked about this deck's maybe the greates weakness, the relentless rats -.-'

I mean, what about counterbore/traumtatize+haunting echoes etc spells and combos, which would just slaughter and exile all cards with the same name? You'd end up in no creatures att all if that would happen...

http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=150388

my standard deck, in fnm's i've gone 3-1, 2-2, 2-2, and 3-1 again.
16 rats, 22 lands, and tons of black removal, oh and sign in blood, but that's only to get out more removal, honestly.
lucky no one plays memoricide but your deck isn't fast enough to not have answers, and in that format, you'll be dead by the time you have 2 or 3 rats out.

Get something to give your rats haste because if you can get haste on your rats and you play thrumming stone the opponent is pretty much screwed if you have 15+ rats that are all like 18/18 or something.
