Last Edited June 18, 2014 - Low = $19.48My brother and I like to compete 1v1 with budget decks. This is a deck for those looking for some fun with cheap zombie weenies. It was originally intended to use Geralf's Messenger to have an Undying theme but I lost too many times to cards like Leyline of the Void and Nihil Spellbomb. So, I modified this deck to be less reliant on the graveyard.Note: I usually avoid cards that cost over $5 per card.Here's a breakdown of each card in the main deck and how it's utilized:-----------------------------------------------------------------------(B) Gravecrawler (used to be $7 but is now $3 each)----------------------------------------------------------------------- + low CMC + can be used as food for Carrion Feeder + for those with a bigger budget, this also combos well with Contamination, Urborg Justice and Grave Pact - can't block so always be on the offence with this card-----------------------------------------------------------------------(B) Carrion Feeder ----------------------------------------------------------------------- + low CMC + permanently gets bigger when sacrificing creatures i.e. sacrifice Gravecrawler, Undying creatures or blocking creatures that would die anyway. - can't block-----------------------------------------------------------------------(B) Tragic Slip----------------------------------------------------------------------- + low CMC + kills weenies like Llanowar Elves + can kill fat, indestructible creatures like Darksteel Colossus-----------------------------------------------------------------------(1)(B) Butcher Ghoul----------------------------------------------------------------------- + Undying it can be used a) as Carrion Feeder food b) to block high power fatties c) to kill opponents weenies and d) any/all of the above a second time-----------------------------------------------------------------------(1)(B) Wight of Precinct Six----------------------------------------------------------------------- + ridiculously OP in multiplayer games + synergy with creature removal spells - paints a big target sign on you in multiplay-----------------------------------------------------------------------(1)(B) Animate Dead----------------------------------------------------------------------- + combos with Twisted Abomination's Swampcycling ability + animate opponents creatures that you kill-----------------------------------------------------------------------(B)(B) Victim of Night----------------------------------------------------------------------- +/- can't kill your own creatures - if your opponent plays with a zombie, vampire and/or werewolf deck this MUST be replaced with Ultimate Price/Go for the Throat/Urborg Justice-----------------------------------------------------------------------(1)(B)(B) Stronghold Assassin ("Commander 2013 Edition")-----------------------------------------------------------------------Note: If you buy these, make sure to buy them from the "Commander 2013 Edition" set or else the creature type won't read "Zombie Assassin" (they changed its creature type in 2013)+ very powerful sacrifice outlet when combined with Urborg Justice or Grave Pact+ able to sacrifice multiple creatures in this deck without repercussion (e.g. Butcher Ghoul, Gravecrawler or Geralf's Messenger)- only targets non-black creatures. If playing against black, you should substitute this card for other creature removal like Ultimate Price/Go for the Throat/Urborg Justice-----------------------------------------------------------------------(B)(B)(B) Zombie Trailblazer-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ can give your creatures unblockable (i.e. tap Gravecrawler, sacrifice Gravecrawler, recast Gravecrawler, rinse and repeat)-----------------------------------------------------------------------(4) Lashwrithe-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ starts off as a creature+ makes good use of swamps in mid to late game+ can pay with life to equip- bad for early game beat-downs-----------------------------------------------------------------------(3)(B) Soulless One-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ counts ALL zombies in graveyard + battlefield-----------------------------------------------------------------------(2)(B)(B) Graveborn Muse-----------------------------------------------------------------------I'm still iffy about this one but it's a 3/3 for 4 CMC with a Phyrexian Arena ability built in. If using this, you should probably consider some kind of life gain like Consume Spirit, Corrupt or Exsanguinate. If replacing this with an expensive alternative, there's Phyrexian Arena, Oversold Cemetery, Skullclamp and another Unholy Grotto.
This deck is still under construction. I had to revamp it when I noticed the mana curve was too high for 1v1. Also, Gravecrawler goes for about $3 a piece now (instead of $7 previously) so it's much more viable in a budget deck.Note: Cards in the sideboard are suggested cards for those with more than a $20 budget.
