Deck Description

I was motivated to make a Grixis Control deck after helping the user Gerich with his. Go check out his decks and show him some love: http://www.mtgvault.com/gerich/

I've never played Grixis Control but I have always wanted too, especially when Nicol Bolas was in standard. I just couldn't come up with a decklist decent enough for me to run at the time. This one I'm confident in but not as confident as I should be. I'd have to playtest it and tweak it. All in all though it's a decent control deck and should fare pretty well against most of the meta. If you have suggestions please leave them.

How to Play

Control is slow. I say it all the time and can't say it enough. You need options to keep yourself alive and ruin your opponents tempo until you can get your win conditions out and moving. The two win conditions in this deck are AEtherling and Rakdos's Return. There are a total of 15 scry cards in this deck along with Jace so getting answers to whatever your opponent has on the board shouldn't be an issue. I was iffy on the sideboard and I'm very open to suggestions on that one. Really the only thing I would see giving this deck huge issues is RDW and Boros Burn. Those decks are big right now and they are very quick.

Deck discussion for Standard Grixis Control

If im in non-sphinx shell, i always do at least 26 lands on top of Read the Bones , usually 4-of. allows me to keep a land-heavy hand.

and imo a big attraction for Grixis is Cyclonic's Rift + Return interaction. Rift also works with Reap Intellect/Slaughter Games/counterspells in general.

also consider Hypersonic Dragon. it is basically Stormbreath, that is worse against UW but better vs RG Monsters. This, Frostburn, and Master of Waves would be fun to side into when removal is boarded out against you

i think shota yasooka top a gp early this year playing ub control. his list has some neat idea you can look into

I did think about putting Cyclonic Rift in here I just didn't find room for it. I like it's combo with Reap Intellect but it doesn't do much against a lot of decks and it's also very situational. I dropped a Thoughtseize for Read the Bones.
