I have been running my Angus Mackenzie Commander deck for 2++ years now and over time it has experienced a lot of changes. Now I decided to put everything that's currently in there on mtgVault just so that I have a nice tool to organise my deck with.I bought Angus Mackenzie a long time ago because I wanted to create a commander deck that was unlike the decks that everyone else was playing in my local store.Angus is not as obviously powerful as many other legends in Magic, thus I thought it would be a fun challenge to make him work. The point of this deck is to build a pillow fort that Angus can sit in and enjoy his life while our opponents die to a billion tokens from Luminarch Ascension, the Aura Thief + Enchanted Evening combo or something else. Just standing at the sidelines and watching the other players kill eachother is also a valid option. The reason that I ended up playing with Angus Mackenzie for such a long time is very simple. The more I played him and the more I won with him in the early days, the more infamous became Angus as a figure at our game nights where we played commander. The funny thing is though, even when everyone at the table knows that this bearded man with goat horns can do some awful stuff, he still gets away with it almost every time, and that is just hilarious. Just a couple of days ago I got to cast a recent addition to the deck, Omniscience, for the first time, and needless to say, it was fun to just go off and win the game on the spot. Now, having stuff like this in the deck seems a bit lame to some people, but my general philosophy while playing this deck is not to force a combo kill every time. I only use something like that when our game has been going on for 45 minutes++ and everyone has had the opportunity to do whatever their deck wants to do.I am a generous god.
So, the list of this deck can be a bit random because this is just the stuff that I accumulated over the years, but this is basically what you have to do:Step 1: See if anyone is out to kill you right away, and prevent that from happening with Angus, Propaganda and things like that.Step 2: If they stop attacking you, try to not make yourself the target anymore until you have a decent wall of protection or a wrath effect in hand.Step 3: Get a win condition going. Play for example Luminarch Ascension, Kiora, or start collecting all the pieces for a combo. (Aura Thief + Enchanted Evening + Krosan Grip OR Omniscience + Enter the Infinite)Step 4: ???Step 5: Profit!----------------Now, if you just like to do nothing all game but feel good about yourself either way, there are also cards like Trading Post and a couple of cycling lands + Life from the Loam in the deck. This deck can win if it wants, it can also just chill and be buddies with everyone at the table if it wants.
